Opinel Colorama Series No. 8 - Stainless Steel Everyday Carry Folding Pocket Knife with Leather Strap, Painted Hornbeam Handles

If you just edc a knife for opening packages and whittling, look no further than a No. 8 in stainless. The reason I say this is because not many people will ever even need to use or know how to use a pocket knife for "self defense" or "survival" purposes. This is the knife for a realist.It's non threatening, has good fit, finish and quality materials, disappears in a pocket, good ergonomics, a thin Sandvik steel blade that takes a mean edge with even a cheap diamond stone or whetstone from Harbor Freight or the dollar store, and the added bonus is that when cutting food, it doesn't impart that "high carbon" taste.If you do, however intend to use it for bushcraft purposes, the main difference between this and the carbone version is that this one doesn't rust, but it can't strike natural flints like the carbone version. It also won't get that pretty patina from normal use or forced patinas. They both are great fire starters if you keep a ferro rod handy though. They can make a mean feather stick or shavings if you are into that.When buying this, you have to have some sharpening system because it comes with a convex grind that's not ideal for edc uses. I put a 20° edge on mine using diamond stones, ceramic rods and a leather belt for stropping. When it starts losing its edge, I just touch it up with either ceramics or my belt again. You don't need to work too hard to get this thing scalpel sharp.In conclusion, when choosing my knife in the morning, I see myself going for this way more than my Spyderco, Kershaw or Gerber (USA made) knives because it's a gentleman's knife that knows how to perform. If you're not firefighter or EMT and just need a good edge for opening mail and cutting apples, look no further than this glorious friction folder. If you're a hunter or fisherman, do yourself a favor and grab one of these and a Morakniv for the harder usage tasks.

First off, let me start by saying I am not a big Opinel fan, and have been on the edge about whether I wanted to buy one to try or just not bother mainky because I hear people compliment them all the time and how great they are for such a cheap price. I collect pocket knives of all value (except the extreme ones over 200+... I just cannot justify a $200+ pocket knife for any reason) my most expensive knife is either a Spyderco/Benchmade (forgot which costs the most but each are well up past $160) and I barely tske them out to use, but when I do they do not disappoint. My normal EDC knives are that of a spyderco tenacious, a Rat 1 or 2, that cheap $10 usa flag punisher knife from MTech, or a kershaw of some sort. For work I use a victorinox or a civivi elementum as well as my tenacious and RAT models. So to compare Opinel to them... I just didn't think it would be as good.Well, Opinel surprised me by coming out in a nice colorful pattern and after buying my wife a purple Opinel 07, I got the blue 08 to try. By all means do not tske my opinion the wrong way, for its pricepoint this knife is pretty good, especially for someone getting a knife for the first time, it is an awesome entry level knife. The blade is sharp, not very, but enough that I sliced paper and was pleased with stabbing a carboard box a few times rather easily. The color makes me enjoy this knife a little more and the fact that I can do daily activities with this knife should I choose and not be sad if let's say it chipped, broke or got lost, I would say it is definitely work the less than $20 pricetag. However, I am wishing I went with the Opinel 09 or bigger for the extra blade and handle, but it is in no way the fault of the knife. Overall, i really like this knife and plan to use it as a beater knife, knowing I can always get the normal wood handle version for cheaper makes it that much sweeter.If you're looking into a gift, an entry knife or just something unique, give it a try. It may surprise you as it has me.

Such a great pocket knife. Great price for a classic bit of kit. My dad bought me one as a kid and I’ve loved them ever since. There’s definitely a nostalgic thing for me with Opinel knives, but I do think they’re still well made and haven’t lost the build quality that they’ve always had. Good work Opinel!

The knife itself is quality for the price. A nice lightweight locking knife with an easy to use lock.

Das Messer habe ich mir für den Outdoor-Bereich gekauft, denn es wird oft empfohlen.Es hat folgende Vorteile:- Es ist sehr scharf- Es hat einen guten und angenehmen Schliff zum Nachschleifen- Die Bedienung ist einfach- Die Kosten für das Messer sind sehr gering- Schöner HolzgriffDie ganzen Vorteile kann ich nur bestätigen. Es lässt sich angenehm halten und schneidet wirklich gut, auch direkt ab der Lieferung. Nachschleifen geht ohne Probleme und lässt sie Klinge noch etwas verfeinern. Die Klingengröße ist unterschiedlich. Hier ein Riesen Vorteil, denn das Messer gibt es in unzähligen Längen.Die Optik ist so auch einzigartig. Ich persönlich musste mich daran gewöhnen, da andere etwas flacher in der Tasche liegen, aber es passt.Kommen wir zu den Sachen, die mir weniger gefallen.- Mir persönlich gefällt es nicht, dass das Messer im ausgeklappten Zustand nicht zu 100 % einen geraden Rücken hat, aber das ist reine Optik. Hier gibt es keinerlei Nachteile.- ABER der Verschluss ist aus meiner Sicht nicht sicher. Beim arbeiten kann es passieren, dass man beim nachfassen den Verschluss dreht, dann kommt das böse Erwachen. Meine Frau hat ich hier sehr stark verletzt, was im Krankenhaus endete. Das Messer klappt einfach zu, weil der Verschluss verrutschte! Sowas dar aus meiner Sicht ein sicheres Messer nicht haben.- Ebenfalls kann es passieren, da man zum Beispiel das Zudrehen vergisst, auch dann kommt ein böses Erwachen.--> Im Vergleich zu anderen Verschlüssen der Klinge, für mich ein Messer, mit welchem ich mal ein Seil durchschneide oder es im absoluten Notfall hernehme, wenn ich nichts anderes habe, aber es wird auf keinen Fall ein Messer, mit welchem ich oft arbeite.Wenn man sich dem Verschluss bewusst ist und diesen möchte, dann kann ich das Messer nur empfehlen. Die Qualität ist sonst wirklich gut.

Das Opinel No 8 ist zurecht ein Klassiker. Sehr scharf, mit Klinge aus rostfreiem Inox-Stahl, d.h. demselben Stahl, der Victorinox die zweite Hälfte des Namens gegeben hat. Sehr sauber verarbeitet und für leichte Arbeiten nur zu empfehlen.Meine mageren drei Sterne beziehen sich nicht auf das Messer, sondern auf die konsequent falschen Produktbeschreibungen der Colorama-Reihe. "Farbe: Silber" - allen Ernstes? Was, außer der Klinge ist hier silberfarben? Abgebildet ist ein Messer mit dunkelbraunem Griff. Erhalten habe ich eins mit schwarzem. Sieht gut aus, also egal - aber auch lächerlich.Wer diesen Artikel kauft, weiß nicht, was er/sie bekommt.

Ich hab dieses Messer jetzt schon längere Zeit und ich muss sagen es ist immer noch scharf schon 100 mal gewaschen beim Angeln dabei gehabt und würde es mir noch mal kaufen habe meiner Frau auch eins gekauft und sie ist auch vollkommen zufrieden benutze schon als Alltagsmesse und auch teilweise zum Kochen
