Optimum Time Series 3 Sailing Timer

We race day sailers on Cape Cod. This is absolutely necessary in order to be in the right position when the horn goes off. Numbers are big and easy to read, even across the boat, so all the crew can be ready. Easy to use.

I bought this for my daughter who is an equestrian eventer. The watch popped out of the housing on her first ride and was gone forever. Company refused to back it up.

If you need to customize the time in the countdown function so that the timer beeps before the time expires, this does not allow it. There are preset times only that cannot be altered. Save the $15 shipping if you need this function, which was my reason for purchase. Otherwise, the functionality looks good.

I've been very happy with this timer mounting it on the boom for racing.

This is my second Optimum watch, the first one was accidentally lost overboard while trying to put it on over my gloves. My only comment is that on the first one the band became rather stretched out over time. But the functions worked for race starts so I purchased a replacement.

You can wear it around your wrist or stretch it around the mast. It fits on the mast of the Melges 24 I sail. Easy to operate, well sealed, large buttons, and you can twist the display from horizontal to vertical. When this timer eventually dies, I will get another just like it.

Love this watch! I have one for my wife and one for myself. It has easy to view extra large lettering....I no longer need reading glasses to read the time. We also like the SYNC button for when we miss the signal from the start boat. It also has a Time-of-Day mode. I highly recommend this watch to all sailboat racers!

It’s good, it’s relatively easy to use, but it is huge! Granted, I have tiny wrists (6 1/2 inches around) but still, it’s pretty gigantic. Works great for sail racing.

Wrote a good review for this watch when i got it , but after 5 months it soon went wrong. First the beeps stopped and then the sync button fell out and as a result water got into the watch and stopped working.A pity as it was brilliant up to that point. With a years warranty on the watch i was able to return for a full refund, which arrived quickly.

I've had 2 of these watches. The original one was bought in early 2009 and finally died early in 2014. I changed the battery a couple of times and everything was ok - no leaks etc. I did modify the attachment of the clock face into the outer holder which was very loose after changing the battery. Using a bit of sticky backed velcro between the two parts worked a treat. I also changed the supplied strap as it did wear out over time and would also slip through the buckle. Apart from that 5 great years of service!The replacement watch I bought in June 2014 has just died after just 15 months of service. Reason? Water ingress through the front panel the display had droplets inside. I never changed the battery on this watch so it was as supplied. Examining the inside and comparing it the original, the watch has been redesigned a bit but obviously not to improve on any of the complaints that I hear from a lot of sailors in my club.I'm am now looking for a suitable alternative and will miss the big easy to read display. :-(

Highly recommended! Good quality, clear screen, waterproof, floats in the water, comfortable strap.Downsides are that friends at the sailing club say that they have had ones that have popped out of case and sunk, so they put tape from the edge of watch to hold it to the case - but I haven't found this problem and been getting perfect starts in the races since using this watch!A must get.

Yeah these are great watches and everybody racing seems to have one, but the design is not appropriate for dinghy racing. First time use, something on the boat caught the watch and flicked it out of the strap never to be seen again!! Very poor design, why wasn't the strap designed so when you put it on your wrist it captured the watch on your arm?

Bought to replace the same model which,over time, leaked and lost its functions. I hoe that this one will last longer.Good clear readout and good audible signals.
