A Manual of Acupuncture: 9780951054659: Medicine & Health Science Books @ desertcart.com Review: Excellent resource! - There is a reason this is considered a seminal work. The precision of organization is very welcomed and much appreciated! This was recommended by my Acupressure teacher and I'm very glad to add it to my collection of active resources. Review: Best Reference for its Niche, but consider the DVD multimedia version. - A very well conceived, comprehensive and organized text of acupuncture, for the whole journey from beginning to advanced practice. It provides a very rich and in depth summary of information about each point, both in terms of modern usage and plus selected highlights from the classical chinese texts. There is more specific detail on each point in this manual than I have found in any other source, including for the extra points. It is a delightful resource to just read. The language is clear, straightforward and does not bog down in overly heavy detail either. It is well enough organized to assist in problem solving for particular conditions. But, I recommend searching a little further and considering an even richer treasure -- the DVD multimedia verison of this same Manual. It contains everything in the printed text plus some additional enhancements. On the DVD, it is generally easier to appreciate the organization of points by their meridians, their inter-relationships and to follow well-designed sections detailing out the anatomy of critical landmarks such as the spinous processes, ribs, and other bony landmarks. Both the text and DVD contain thorough coverage on precautions to take when needling near organs. Both have extensive charts, historical information and cross-referencing by indications. The interactive study tools in the DVD version and the ability to construct your own practice tests, as well as the ease of computer-added search make the digital version my favorite over the printed text. One Caveat: It is important to know that the DVD employs frustrating DRM limitations which require that the user keep the DVD in their disk drive anytime they want to use the program. I find this intermittently slows down acquisition of a link and occasionally necessitates rebooting the entire computer due to some odd hangup. Printed texts fortunately bypass these irritations.

Best physical quality ever. Good printing Good paper.
Before going into the academic review, i have to tell you how much i love the printing and the paper! Best quality in any textbook for medicine, western or chinese. Paper is thick, soft to touch. Print color is gentle on eyes. Even the fonts look great. Academia : While the best teacher in medicine is our patients, this book is a nice starting point for the newly initiated into the world of acupuncture. Nothing really great or so special that it surpasses all other texts, but good enough to be on your shelf as one of the main "utility" textbook. Good references throughout every chapter. I feel more reassured when reading this book compared to others with scantier references.

I liked it much more than I thought I would
I'll start out by stating I'm a recent acupuncturist and this was one of the main manuals needed to study for the board exam. Before getting this book, I was primarily interested in medical acupuncture and more neurological explanations as to how acupuncture probably works. When I started reading this book, I was taken into the world of the tradition of acupuncture. I firstly appreciated the authors mentioning of the many contradictions in traditional acupuncture. After a while though, I started to really appreciate these different ideas and found myself considering the different energetic possibilities within our bodies. I started to consider the thousands of years of empirical observation and I was fascinated. Long story short, this manual made studying fun for me. It's a bonus that the book looks incredibly cool and looks impressive on the bookshelf. I also used the app which was about $30. The app is much easier to navigate and has almost all of the information on the actual points and meridians.

It’s a top-notch textbook
I had to return mine for a refund but I can tell you one thing the reason was I wasn’t going to be taking classes in Acupuncture any time soon, but if I had started, this would be the book that a person should get if they were going into that profession

Great book
This is a great resource for someone in school for acupuncture, there are great pictures and descriptions. I use this book at least a few times a week for references.

Good book
Nice book, pages are sturdy, prints are clear. Arrived with a cut on the books cover sleeve, with the original plastic seal. The cut did leave a light mark on the book cove, though it does not affect the integrity of the book cover. The coupon inside of the book is out of date and useless.

.
I am a novice and have not been to any formal training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, so take this review with that in mind. I was just curious about the subject and I feel that this book has done a good job in presenting the information in a (relatively) easy to understand format. It is well organized and has plenty of illustrations. I will write an update in the future when I complete the book and put it into practice

Very clear illustrations and explanations but you really need the video. This does raise the cost but it is worth it. The distribution of the video was somewhat disorganized but they got there in the end.

Probably the best book I’ve found to help me with my accupuncture course

A brilliant book. You'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Clear, thorough, and should be in every healer's library.
