RaphaelSoftAqua Synthetic Squirrel Watercolor Brush, Round, 14, Black

I am newer to watercolor and this brush is amazing. It doesn't "mush" when you dip it in the water... holds a good shape so you can paint detail and not too large or too small to work with. It was recommended by The Art Sherpa. I use her on line courses and she is great at recommending good and reasonably priced products.

I like this brush even though it seems small for a size 8. I have my Princeton aqua elite size 6 to the left and my silver brush black velvet size 4 to help compare. The bristles have a nice balance between softness and spring. The brush itself seems to hold a fair amount of pigment and water and doesn’t dump it all on the first stroke. The tip is not needle sharp, but it’s reasonable and easy to use. The price was reasonable as well, especially for the quality. All in all I really like this brush and would like to order more in bigger sizes.

I ordered a number 14 round, my first impression is that the hair lacks protective gum arabic/starch. The hair itself seems to hold a lot of water, it even feels natural but the ferrule was not glued properly and fell as soon as I started using it. Hair quality is similar to Escoda Ultimo and Princeton Neptune. The brush was likely a manufacturer problem, shipping process, or a I got a return. For an artist quality brush is dissapointing, althouth I ended up gluing it. Also note that the size is not regular, size 14 Raphael is more like size 8-10 on Escoda or Princeton Neptune.

This is my favorite brush to use for just about any style I use....landscape, still painting, illustration, just about anything!!! I love the amount of color and water this brush holds. Raphael Soft Aqua brushes are so specially made and I cherish them!! Beautiful brushes that produce beautiful works of art!!!!

This size 16 brush is about the same as size 10 in all of the other brands that I have. I'm including a picture to compare it with a Size 10 Silver Brush, Size 16 Silver Brush, and a Size 4 Raphael Quill for comparison. The Raphael Soft Aqua Size 16 Round is on the left. Otherwise, it's a very good brush, soft and springy. It holds a lot of water and releases it evenly. The point is not exceedingly fine, but the belly of this brush is smooth and very usable for side-brush/dry brush techniques. It's an easy brush to use and may quickly become a favorite. Just be aware both the working end of the brush and the handle are on the small side.

i own many many high quality watercolor brushes but when i first used this i ws shocked nothing else compares and the price is great buy it u wont be dissapointed

The brush is good, as described, soft, holds water and make a not very fine tip . I just found it small for the size. I bought size 14, but this looks like a size 8 or less. I recommend buying two or three sizes of what you want.
