WAY too hard to turn! It has grease in the thing, and I twisted it back and forth several times to try to loosen it up, but no go.I think I know what happened here.1. I'm guessing that they calculated out the tolerances of the components to be the same as the uncoated one, but forgot to take into account the thickness of the black powder-coat.and/or2. The way it was assembled is to clamp and bend the metal into a channel around the sliding mechanism, and they simply make it way too tight.Not worth paying the return shipping, so no huge money deal, but it's still the case I'm still basically out $7. Annoying, basically.

I bought these latches for a woodworking chest project mostly because I liked the looks of them better than the usual fare. Once I got them I found them to be better in most regards. They're of great quality and work flawlessly. I still think they look great on the finished project but the good looks turned out to be a bonus to everything else.

i wanted to securely latch the lid of an oak filecard box so I could use it for a radio + battery, with a carry handle on the lid. these latches are working *great* for me, they easily support the 20 lbs or so of my 12V20AH battery + car stereo from the lid.

Works well and seems durable enough to last through hundreds of uses by my grandson

They do latch. But they are VERY VERY stiff and hard to turn. Also, any fastener you used must have a VERY small head so not to interfere with the latch. I lubed it up and twisted it a bunch of times to try to get it to loosen up. No deal. If you are going to use it a lot. Expect it to be hard to turn. A child would not be able to open it, so I guess you could call if child safe.

The keeper was not with the latch and the latch won't close all the way.

Gets better with age. Hold tight and doesn’t let go at all

Have really upped my game, where handmade custom cases are concerned. ThanQ Reliable for great products, reasonably priced. These are small enough to do the job, but big enough I suspect latches will stay latched.
