It works

I'm using this in conjunction with a digital mixer, a Hosa AES to S/PDIF converter, and an ATEM Mini Pro in order to align the audio with video for live streaming purposes. I've got the audio coming out of the Soundcraft via AES/EBU XLR cables into a HOSA AES to S/PDIF optical converter. Then it's out with optical into this unit and I also bring the video from a camera into the HDMI input here. Then the HDMI output goes into my ATEM and I activate the audio on that channel/input. The ATEM can't handle a black signal (it won't take the audio if there's no video - BlackMagic did say I could get a signal generator, but those are surprisingly expensive), so I have to feed a camera in. Since I'm not using audio direct from any cameras for our multi-cam live stream, there's no loss.

I bought this and it worked great to bring in my mixed music and microphone audio to the HDMI. I only used it a few times and now it fails lass than a year old.

It works. Including CEC control of HDMI devices! I have a video streaming device (AppleTV) combined with a different audio (music) stream and the AppleTV remote can trigger the receiver (Denon) and TV (TCL) to change correctly inputs! One remote to rule them all

needs to be power cycled if left on to long. Otherwise it's great. make sure the HDMI cables are as short as possible, not to exceed about 15' total. The insert allows my digital sound system to, play thru the surround sound system that did not have an aux in rca style or 3.5mm. Works great. As with many complicated setups make sure you use the correct adapter if you lose track as a higher voltage will turn it into ma smoke generator (my fault)

This box will replace audio embedded into an HDMI cable. There is a 3 position switch to select incoming HDMI, TOSLINK, or analog PCM from RCA cables. HDMI loops through this box with replacement audio multiplexed into the output. There are no frills. This means no fading, no stream protection while switching sources. You will probably get objectionable noise if you fiddle with the box with volume up. So don't. Turn the amplifier down then switch sources. All kinds of uses for this kind of item. Adjusting levels, fixing lip sync, adding sound to a silent source, all using other optional analog devices. This will not fix these issues by itself but allows a "side-chain" to be introduced . It is not a Dolby AC3 encoder but can pass it and can encode stereo PCM. This could solve many "no sound" issues while using HDMI as audio source. I only wish that it had level controls or at least a 10dB pad. At this price level it seems appropriate. Solved our problems. Happy with our purchase.

I'll give it a good review but know this: As several have pointed out, if there is no video on the HDMI input to this, it will insert audio and it will not put out audio on the HDMI out connector. People have commented on this in the questions area have indicated this; I'm just pointing it out. And you can't fake it with just plugging an HDMI cable into the input either. I think this should be made clearer in the product description. Also, one person gave it a bad review because using a microphone as an analog source gave low or no audio output on the HDMI. I think most people who would need something like this know that a microphone level input is MUCH lower in voltage than a line level signal which there was no sound using it like this. It does the job it claims to do, it just doesn't do everything that some people may want it to.

When this adapter works, it works well, providing well synchronized audio and video. I'm using a DVI-to-HDMI video source and standard analog line out audio in. The video always works great. But the audio will just stop for no obvious reason, and I have to flick the audio selector switch on this box to optical then back to line in, then the audio will turn back on for a a few minutes. Then suddenly, usually when the audio source is not outputting sound for a couple of seconds, the audio switches off again. Only flicking that switch on the box fixes it. Really frustrating.

Bought this so that I could play my record player off the TV sound system (HDMI input only). 3.5mm jack from the record player to the Line-in of this device, then HDMI-out to the TV. The TV needs a video feed on its input to recognize it as active, thus I had to put a chromecast (or pi zero) on the HDMI-in of this device. So i can look at a slide show while the sound from the record player sounds out in very good quality.
