SHIMANO CN-HG94 XT Derailleur Chain - 10sp, 1/2" x 3/32", 116-link

I'm not sure about the problems others have had with this chain, but I haven't had any. It is important to remember that 10 spd chains are narrower and more fragile than earlier generation chains (6,7,8,9speed), etc, so you need to take care of them more. They are not something that should remain on a bicycle without regular maintenance.I've used a few chains and the XT 10spd one has been dependable for me. I clean and re-lube it every 100 miles or so, or when I notice it's getting dirty. I measure it regularly as well for stretch and I also keep the rest of the drivetrain clean to limit wear on the chain. I can get them to last a long time this way. This year alone, I've ridden this chain in three 8 hour MTB races and two 100 mile MTB races (a 14hr and an 11hour) - even did the famous Leadville Trail 100 on it. I use it on road and off. The one on the road seems to stretch less even though I'm climbing more. I think it's due to the conditions. Never snapped a chain and any problems I had went away with a few drops of lube.Happy riding!

I read the other two reviews of this chain, and can't believe it. My experience has been excellent. I wonder if Shimano's somewhat demanding instructions were followed correctly?I followed the instructions to a T, noting chain orientation, and recommended installation of the special link pin. The KMC my Specialized Carve Pro came with lasted six months, and the replacement KMC (same chain) lasted less than two months. This XT chain has lasted TEN months of relentless abuse! I ride a hardtail 29er, and take it down some trails most people wouldn't think of taking a hardtail - it gets beaten up. I'm 225 pounds and have converted the bike to a 2x10, so on climbs I really stress the heck out of this chain.I bought another one as backup, since I thought it was getting to the end of its life, but after buying a Park Tool chain wear tool, it's still got some life left in it.I will definitely buy this chain again!

What a steal, I go this on an Amazon Warehouse deal and it was brand new for dirt cheap.Now you can go ahead and run a Sram or KMC and it will work, but if you run Shimano cassette and chainrings, nothing will shift as well as a Shimano chain.

Over 1000 miles and never any problems...about to buy another one...

I've been cycling for 24 years and I've never broken a chain until this one. I broke 2 within 6 months. Not cool in the middle of a race! Typically I've been very satisfied with shimano products and I suspect that this one is an anomaly, but I cannot recommend this chain at all.

Shimano XT is always a good bet. You give up a little weight but the quality is undeniable. I would recommend this chain for just about any one riding a mtn. bike.
