Ok, not great!
I was expecting more from this book. I came across it by chance in a supermarket and then bought it through Amazon as the connection with the film was quite interesting. The photos are beautiful but I found many of the recipes a bit simplistic, not because they are simple as I love that but because many are just versions of existing recipes with a little twist. So far I have only read it from cover to cover and although I am sure that I will get some enjoyment out of it as I said I was expecting something more original!I have a few questions though… Should one eat the orange in the middle of the Conquistador Orange Pudding or is it only there for the flavour and is discarded in the end? I have come across a recipe with a lemon a little while ago but again I didn’t understand whether one serves the lemon with a slice of the pudding or one just throws it away. I also didn’t understand the introductory text to the Aztec Gold. The recipe is about the well-known orange peel dipped in chocolate but the author says that she likes to leave the peel intact while Fran likes to remove it. How can one remove the peel from the peel….. I guess that there is something I am missing here….All in all the connection with the film Chocolat is a very interesting one and I am sure that I will end with some recipes that add to my repertoire! Measurements only in metric!!!!!

A real treat
Love this little book. Every time I make a treat using these recipes, I remember the film 'Chocolat' and enjoy the decadence of its luxurious temptations. Well-presented, recipes are easy to follow, and really tasty!

Beautiful treat of a book
I love this book almost as much as I loved the film. The styling of the book and the photos used are so gorgeous. The recipes are a real treat and easy to follow. I also love Joanne Harris' little anecdotes and notes throughout the book too.

A lovely book
I was expecting cake and biscuit recipes but was delighted to find there are recipes for hot chocolate and sweets too. These are mainly recipes for adults although there are some for children, including a wonderful chocolate chip cookie recipe. If you've read Joanne Harris's novels, you'll recognise recipes for things her characters make, eat and drink in the novels, including 'Spiced nipples of Venus'. Naughty!
