LEGO 42098 Car Transporter

So upfront we have to say Lego is expensive but for anyone who loves building models with bricks you really can’t buy better and it lasts forever and the challenge and entertainment value is high. My hubby is a retired engineer and he loves Lego technic. He’s got just about every adult suitable model in technic so I bought this as a birthday gift to add to his collection. He enjoyed building it and these were his comments. It’s a fairly straightforward model to build and would be an ideal kit for anyone new to technic. Certainly suitable for 10+ and maybe younger if they are experienced builders or parents are happy to help out. It’s a large set and has several moveable parts. The ramps drop down and interconnect so that cars can be driven onto every level of the transporter. The trailer sections come apart so the model is in three connecting parts. You get one car to build but obviously for any Lego collector you could build additional cars to fit. The cab is well constructed on the whole although the doors were a little flimsy, probably down to getting the accuracy of the build right. There are lots of small connection parts so good idea to transfer these into a separate box or tin do you don’t lose them. It’s a great way of introducing kids to the complexities of engineering in an enjoyable and rewarding way and the completed transporter can be played with without it falling apart. As Lego goes it’s the right price in comparison to similar sized models . Would make a good present for any budding engineer or Lego fan whose ready to try something more technical. So based on his opinion I’d recommend this set especially as an introduction to more complex models.

This is a great Lego set and as others have commented, good value for money. I have given it 5 stars overall because I am impressed with it and 4 stars for ease of assembly, because it is both enjoyable and holds some challenges to build (after all, which adult wants a technic Lego set that is too easy to build?). The flexibility is great. The car carrier offers variety and some interesting mechanics with platforms to raise and lower etc, but of course it also comes with a car to boot. I went a step further and bought the orange car to go on the back of it too. Looks great and works well, though I suspect with any more than the 2 cars the whole thing would be a bit unwieldy and not quite strong enough. Once that is complete and you want to make a new model, the alternative set is available as pdf download and again is an enjoyable build. I have been doing it in bits with my 3-year old 'helping' at the weekends. So far we have made the trailer and red van (the latter has a very nice lifting action back section). This is the first set I have bought in recent years since having the more traditional technic 'with knobs on' and I have to say, it works well, and allows more flexibility of builds. Thumbs up from me, now looking out for a new technic set to challenge me.

I have done about 10 Lego models now and I have to say this is by far the biggest and the best. It took the longest to do which gave me a lot of satisfaction and pleasure unlike the disappointing feeling when you finish a jigsaw. I feel the price was ok but maybe Lego could put a few more spare pieces. Thanks Les.

Love lego and this was a treat for myself while in isolation. As with all lego sets if you follow the instructions the model will turn out perfect. It's very good with lots of functions, I'm an adult so don't play with the sets I build but that said I can imagine a child being very happy playing with this lego set. I got the other car also that's in the description and that adds a bit more to the model. Didn't find this model hard to build at all and finished it within 2 days. Could of had it done in 1 but being in lockdown no point in rushing.

I managed to get this for less than £90 in an Amazon sale and for that price it's great value. There's a stack of lego pieces and it's fun to see how the various moving parts work. Pity there aren't other cars available that fit the scale of this model, that would make it really fun. For the price and amount of lego within the set it's good value.

Bought it for my son's Xmas gift. He loves it. Took three days to assemble many small parts understandable. However due to its big size prone to break down and come apart. I wish it has some engine with remote or something make it move easier.

Firstly I have a lot of technic and the wife has the creator expert cars. Wasn’t expecting this to be a good set, so much so I bought it for the parts but decided to build it. It’s not as difficult as some of the other sets but it is actually a nice set once built. Have put a lot of the creator cars on it so it helps with storage and before that our son enjoyed playing with it. It’s a lot bigger than I though it would be so is stored with the trailer detached.

Great set from Lego Technic. Good fun build, looks great and has lots of functions. It's very big and great value for money. There are also a lot of good Mocs to be made from this kit as you can see from the low loader in my pictures.

Todo perfecto, la caja estaba algo dañada, pero el contenido todo sin ningún rasguño.

Lego ist einfach unschlagbar. Wir haben ihn noch nicht zusammen aber wir arbeiten daran. Schade ist nur das das Buch echt dick ist und ich persönlich würde es gut finden wenn man es in drei aufgeteilt hätte. Auch die anderen Baumöglichkeiten kann man sich nur als PDF runterladen. Zur Qualität kann man nicht viel neues sagen, Lego ist gut.
