(I am almost done with it though so I have read enough to review it.) First of all let me just tell you that there are 108 chapters in this book which sounds like a long book, but it isn't. Each of the chapters are only a few pages long because they switch the point of view between the two main characters Wisty and Whit. Wisty is 15 and Whit is about 18. I too am 15 so I got to see how Patterson did writing from a teen girl's P.O.V. and he did pretty well. Wisty is a very sassy girl who stands up for herself and her brother throughout the story which is why I like her a lot. Whit is a tough guy who needs to be strong for his sister through the story and the change of their world. They both are there for each other when they need to be. I must also add that they are both funny when they make smart comebacks to the guards and other people. That is all I am going to add about the characters because if I keep going on then you won't even need to buy this book haha! The plot is followed well through the whole story. I have had a few moments where I was like "Huh? What does that mean?" or "What just happened?" but it explained itself in time. To end this review for those who actually read it, I am going to just say that it has been a very great book to read and it kept me on my toes! I couldn't even put my Kindle down (as that is what I'm reading it on). You will always be wanting to read more to see what happens! :) Review: WITCH AND WIZARD - I loved James Patterson's Maximum Ride series, so I thought I'd try another this other one by him written for young adults.(teens or preteens.) I gave it 4 stars because while it was a better written book than Max ride, I found the characters less likeable. This may change though, after I read the next books in the series, which this first one prompted me to do after ending with a cliff hanger. It is about a brother and a sister, ages 15 and 18, and they find out they are a witch and wizard. I won't put any spoilers here, but they go through a lot to try to escape and help others out of prison. They didn't use their powers as much as I would have hoped, but that might change in the next book since they will have had them longer. It is fantasy, suspense, realistic, and overall a fast, interesting read. I, a 14 year old girl, recommend this book for ages 11 and up. There is a little violence, so if you are sensitive to that maybe 12 and up. But, if you are younger and are good at reading and don't mind a little action, read it! There are plenty more in this series already, so we don't have to wait for the next one too come out. Well, that's my review. As a recap, teens and preteens would like this book if you enjoy action and some magic. :)

What a great book
I have not read many James Patterson's books but this one was very very good. I read it in about 2 days. The story keeps you interested and you do not want to put the book down. The book is about a brother and sister who know and do magic. I bought this book on a whim because I say the 4th one is due to come out in February. So I thouht, I might as well get the first one and see what it is like. The book is easy to follow and keeps your interest. It some times back tracks to explain something but not very often. I am not an YA but do like reading some of the books that are targeted to that age group. So now off to the second book. Happy reading everyone.

Entertaining...If Nothing Else
I absolutely love dystopian, end-of-life-as-we-know-it, type of novels. George Orwell's 1984 (Signet Classics) and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale happen to be two of my favorites. This novel started with great promise...And then it fell short. Very short. The novel is about Wisty and Whit Allgood, two teenage siblings who are kidnapped by the New Order, a form of government that has taken over the world. During this time, Wisty and Whit discover that they have magical powers, and that is why the New Order considers them a threat. The story opens up with Wisty and Whit being led to the gallows in a sports arena, with thousands of people cheering on their hanging. As the proceedings commence, Wisty and Whit take us into the backdrop of the story, how they found themselves condemned to death. In a trite and oversimplified manner, we learn that our political system crumbled overnight and was replaced by the New Order headed by "The One Who Is the One." As Wisty and Whit continue to battle some of their challenges, they become more aware of the magnitude of their supernatural powers. The story crosses over from Wisty and Whit's time in prison, over to other worldly dimensions (such as the Shadowland where spirits dwell) back to an unrecognizable world overwrought with despair, war, and hopelessness. But none of this is captured with any depth. What I thought would be a great dystopian story seemed more like a cat-and-mouse fantasy under a dystopian backdrop. I do enjoy fantasies and stories of magic along with mayhem, but there was something missing in this story. It was entertaining in some areas but it lacked the thrilling suspense I would expect in a novel written by Patterson. This is the first book in a new series and unfortunately, it leaves readers with a rather weak cliffhanger. This series may have some promise and hopefully, the next book will delivery on that.

Witch and wizard
A few people have been complaining about the plot of this book and though I admit the chapters are a bit short, the reader really gets the characters, there are twists and suspense, and it has a very interesting topic . I really enjoyed this book and will be purchasing the next one as soon as possible. You also get who is "good and bad" and everything is very well explained. There are betrayals and loss, it is a marvelous book in my opinion and that is why I rated it five on five. Thank you James Patterson!

The story is gripping from start to finish. It is action-packed, and unlike in (most) blockbusters, the story doesn’t suffer from it – quite the opposite. Sometimes, in slower books, I feel like the authors had only a short story to tell but desperately added stuff until it was novel-length. Literary dilution of sorts. Witch & Wizard is 100% pure story, not made from concentrate. I liked the main characters a lot and found them believable and endearing. The villains, on the other hand, I didn’t find too believable. However, neither did the main characters. And if I judge by the awards James Patterson received… I’m guessing something will come up in the next volumes to explain why “regular humans” would act like psychopaths. I loved that the narration was split between Wisty’s and Whit’s point of view. I identified a lot with Wisty, despite her being a lot different from myself. Not so much with Whit, but he felt real nonetheless. Witch & Wizard The Gift coverAlso, something that happens too rarely: each had their own recognizable voice, like they were really written by a different person. Yet, it was also “homogenized”, so that neither looked like a better storyteller than the other. Awesome work, really. The chapters are very short: like two or three pages. While I prefer long chapters, these were so ridiculously short that I ended up completely ignoring chapter changes, just like I do page changes, which made me read super quickly like I do chapter-less books. Rating: 9.5/10, give or take .5 depending on the rest of the series. Who would I recommend this to? Everyone, provided they like fantasy. Really. I can’t guarantee you’ll like it, but it certainly is worth reading.

I have to say that I'm a huge Harry potter fan and I really thought that I would never find anything that would ever compare to it but I am happy to say that I love this book it's what I would call a cross between Harry potter and the hunger games so I'm very happy with that. The only thing that I would say is that it does take some getting used to with the fact that the chapters read through the eyes of the two main characters but other than that this book is a bloody good read :)

The book is divine, but if you're real fan and want a long lasting cover this one won't be it.
