They Earned This
Funny that such a worthy addition today to their arsenal of releases was actually recorded in 1996. And though the brothers mostly cover familiar ground here, they make some seriously elegant sounds. By this time in their careers, they’re unequivocal superstars who have nothing to prove. Accordingly, there are no flashy stages, big productions, or wild costumes. And that’s part of what makes this concert so enjoyable. It’s essentially acoustic--some rhythm guitar, a little keyboard--and this (I think) is where a lot of these songs really shine. The Fever stuff is probably better with a full band, but most of their other beautiful melodies are really showcased via the vocals and gorgeous three-part harmony, and with as little accompaniment as possible. They usually included brief song snippets acoustically during their live concerts. If you liked those, you’ll get an entire disk here of the full songs performed that way. If you know one thing about these guys, it’s that they were some of the most unassuming, humble, good-natured, and down-to-earth people in the business. And the storytelling format is a natural fit for their personalities and brand of humor. There’s no gibberish here. The stories are insightful and entertaining, and the brothers are, as usual, totally charming. For the life of me, I cannot understand how some reviewers poo-poo “the talking,” how they could be fans if they feel that way about the artists, or what point, if any, they’re making except that they’ve failed terribly to understand the concept of “storytellers.” It’s like buying a Dizzy Gellespie album and then poo-pooing “the trumpeting.” If storytellers isn’t a concept you go for, then don’t buy the recording or spend time listening to it. The Bee Gees may not be perfect people, but who is. And they amassed respect in the business the old fashioned way. They earned it. There’s a warm and cozy feel to this concert, the sounds are wonderful, and it’s very nice music to play for house guests. If your guests aren’t familiar with the Bee Gees, they’ll invariably ask, “Who is this?!” If they are familiar, you might just get, “Thanks for the memories.”

Brothers Gibb are great
The Bee Gees made great music for decades...yet so many people only know them for their disco tinged music (Saturday Night Fever). This is just a taste of their popular tunes. So sad Maurice and Robin Gibb have passed...as well as Andy...oldest brother Barry is still out there though!

One of their best albums.
Listened to this album over and over many many times. Really enjoyed the music and then you have the long interview at the end. By far the very best album let. They laugh and have a good time throughout, almost as if they are in the other room.

Great music
The music of the Bee Gees is timeless, and this CD includes works from various eras of their music. There was one small glitch on one track, and the sellers gave me a full refund. I didn't even have to return the CD. The glitch doesn't retract from the great songwriting and beautiful harmonies of the Gibb Brothers.

Up close and personal
VH1 Storytellers is USA show that has artists playing some of their back catalogue to a small audience with the added bonus of giving a background to the song after the performance. Many of the performances were subsequently issued on CD. The Bee Gees made an appearance in November 1996 (and was the ninth artist to appear) but, surprisingly, that full show has never been released. Until now. It's on Zip City, a label I've never heard of and might even be of dubious legality. With just Barry's acoustic strumming, who also handles nearly all the vocals and between song patter, Maurice's piano and occasional strings, the thirteen songs are all classics, including 'Islands In The Stream' and an unfortunately shortened 'Heartbreaker'. For non hardened Bee Gees fans, also thrown in are two unusual selections, though both were singles that died a death; a superb semi acapella version of 'Still Waters' and 'I Could Not Love You More', which is criminally shortened to a mere 90 seconds. That between song chat is quite enlightening in parts, especially that which explains 'Jive Talkin'. The explanation for 'Islands In The Stream' is something I was unaware of. You wish there was more but I guess time constraints dictated how many songs could be performed. The music makes up 44 minutes and the rest is taken up by a question and answer session with an unapparent UK interviewer for an unapparent publication. Probably taped around April/May 1989, as it mentions their new LP, 'One'. As interesting as it is, like all interview albums, you won't play it more than once, but much of it is illuminating. (When George Michael was touting himself around for a record deal, 'Night Fever' was on his demo tape.) However, you'll have to listen to it that one time in order to hear the 50 seconds of an acapella version of 'Ordinary Lives'. Unlike the auto tune artists of today, that snippet, and part of the aforementioned 'Still Waters', briefly show how good the group were at actual singing. The inlay is disappointing and it's a shame Zip City didn't invest more into giving us something substantial to read. That notwithstanding, this is as intimate as it gets and it's as if they're singing to you in your front room.

Amazing music !
First class music from three wonderful people. The only thing to say is that they are the best singer/ songwriters that ever lived.niece to hear them talking about each song, but it’s nice to hear them talking anyway. The Bee Gees are a huge part of my life, simply it doesn’t get any better than the Bee Gees !

Bee Gees "Storytellers 1996"
Amazon impeccabile e unico sia nella consegna, che nelle eventuali sostituzioni di articoli difettosi. Quindi ogni acquisto è in cassaforte.
