Pilot Fine Nib is equivalent to an extra fine from other manufacturers
I have had a Cross ATX Extra Fine fountain pen for many years--I just love the aesthetics of the pen...shape, weight, colors, and texture of the finishes. After nearly 20 years on a computer keyboard, I decided that I'd like to work on my penmanship (which has sorely suffered from lack of use).Got my groove back after note-taking with the Cross for several days, and decided to look for other fountain pens. I heard that Pilots/Namikis were fantastic, and that the nibs were one level finer than that of other manufacturers. So, to match my Extra Fine on the Cross, I ordered this Pilot Prera in BLACK with a FINE nib.Wow. This Fine nib on the Prera is probably .5x finer than my Cross Extra Fine! Ink flow is smooth, consistent, and creates an extremely clean and neat look to my lettering. I really really like it!Yes, the barrel is a bit short, but my hands are small enough that it doesn't matter (such that I don't HAVE to post the cap if I don't want to).Like many reviewers, I find the clear barrel intriguing and aesthetically pleasing. That Pilot used a translucent white cap liner is a puzzle as it completely detracts from the concept of "see through." Yes, this pen is far lighter than my all metal Cross, but for an everyday writer that I want to carry around with me this actually works better.I was originally interested in the Pilot Vanishing Point pens (the retractable nib and sealed compartment make it both unique and practical), but I wanted to start with this Prera to see what all the fuss was about first. As it is, I am thinking to pick up another of these Preras!UPDATE 01.31.14:I ordered another Prera in BLUE with a FINE nib. Both sold from Amazon.Strangely, my 2nd experience was a bit different from the first....Black/Fine came with the ink cartridge in a small ziploc baggie. This black pen had no stickers on the barrel nor tabs on the clip.Blue/Fine came with the ink cartridge rolling around loose underneath the pen--it was NOT in a ziploc bag and it had *exploded* (not a nice way to greet a new pen). The cartridge tab was pushed or pulled inward, much like it would look if you had tried to attach it to the pen. I immediately wondered if the pen was used...but close inspection could not confirm that even though the tines did look to be not quite as tight as on my Black/F pen. Additionally, there was a little F sticker on the barrel and the Pilot tab was on the clip. The writing experience seems to be the same with both pens (smooth, with an extra fine line), however, so I'm pretty happy except for the lack of ink cartridge due to the fact that it exploded inside the case.

A wonderful pen sure to fit in with my collection of Fountain pens.
Let me start by saying I just love this pen. I am not new to Fountain pens by any means (I sell pens on a daily bases) I've never really been a fan of Pilot pens but I wanted a red and clear pen that looked classy and worked well. so I decided to take a stab at this one. and I am not regretting it.This pen writes smooth and very cleanly. the Fine Nib is amazing it is a very fine point and I love that. being clear really adds a nice and classy look to it. I decided to load it with red ink. which looks amazing when the wells of the nib are loaded it's like a ton of little vanes with red.Loading the pen with the included converter was a trick. If there were a converter review this would be a 1 star review. but it's about a pen. they put this little metal flow constrictor in the converter that if you use a normal ink bottle or well it'll block the suction from drawing the ink. so you have to load it sideways.Only other thing is the pen is a little on the short side. I'm used to using a little taller of a pen. so you must put the cap on the other end when writing with it. or it would be good for someone with small hands. but just putting the cap on the tail end doesn't bother me at all so I can deal with that.I haven't had it long enough to notice if there is any skipping. if I run into such issues I will be sure to update this review for now (5/27/2015) I love this pen.Bottom line, it's an amazing pen. cost effective but not short on it's abilities. this pen is sure to inspire you to write all day long.Special shout out to everyone who answered my question: Thank you, My question way if the pen comes with a converter. the answer, It sure does.

The Prera delivers as expected
This pen fits my writing habits perfectly. My handwriting is small and I favor extra-fine nibs, so I wanted a pen with a round and really small nib for my daily note taking activities. The Prera fits the bill. The nib is extra-fine and suits my handwriting perfectly. The pen is also beautiful. There are a few cheaper Prera models where the body is not transparent and I think the pen itself will be as joyful to use as this one, but I liked the visual of the clear body and light blue details. The only thing, so far, that doesn't work great for me is the pen size. I favor pens that are slim and tall. The Prera is a bit short to my taste. But I can't hold it against the pen, I knew it would be like this.I haven't cleaned it yet, nor refilled it, so I can't comment on that. But I expect it to be flawless in any case. All in all, excellent pen.

GREAT pen!
First off, I'm left-handed, so that presents a problem. I tend to drag my hand across the page, plus holding a fountain pen is also awkward for a 'leftie', and tends to cause pens with a less-smooth nib to write poorly (scratchy). This pen eases that by having the smoothest nib I've ever experienced. Yes, THE smoothest. The pen simply glides across the paper as smoothly as silk. I had concerns about the 'slip-off' cap allowing the nib to dry out between uses (as opposed to a threaded, screw-on cap) but Pilot designed this cap extremely well, with a vacuum seal; so the nib stays wet and ready to use no matter how long the pen sits. The pen feels great in my hand, it's not too large nor too small. With the cap 'posted' on the body, it balances perfectly...giving a great writing experience. I love it!

Super!
