Worth the Read, a lot of good information.
Growing up I was taught fishing basics, mainly using a basic bobber, fishing bottom, and the different baits like shrimp, chicken liver, worms and so on. However this book has a lot of good information I was never taught, different rig setups, different knots, it explains what you would use different hooks for, what different species of fish like to eat and where they typically like to feed, regardless if you’ve been fishing for your whole life or a complete novice, this book should have something in it for you, does it cover everything? I doubt it, you can always learn more, but it goes beyond the worm and hook basic training. I would definitely recommend. I’ve not caught more fish yet, but it’s definitely made the experience more enjoyable trying out new methods and baits and locations.

LOVE THIS BOOK!
I been reading this book most of winter and reread it because im so pumped to go fishing this spring! this book is perfect for any beginner or expierence fisherman! i been fishing for atleast 16 years! and ive caught some good stories! but i knew most this stuff this book was stating but some it i didnt! Even though i knew some of it. it made me realize where i been messing up at. if you never fished before this book will make you want to fish! Promise! in great detail and great order it tells you about all the fish families and then goes on to tell you about all size hooks and weights and different kinds of lures! Not only that it gives great detail pictures on how to tie knots and rigs! show pictures of all the fish lures weights and baits . tells you how to catch the fish and where to look! it really breaks down the way of fishing and how it works and why you would want to fish. It even tells you great techniques to use on every exact fish. its like a cheat sheet to fishing. I would recommend to anyone with a kindle bc i got it for only 99 cents! If i knew the book was that good i would have paid more ! jk Honestly the only reason why i bought it was because it was 99 cents and i wasnt gonna loose much. Seriously though i would recommend this book to any expeirence fisherman or beginner

As advertised.
It covers the basics as advertised. Unfortunately the quality of the book itself is very poor. I plan to refer back to it and I doubt it will hold up well. The similar Field and Stream book was beautiful and excellent quality...but not basic and very disorganized. 2 stars. This book was well written and organized but lots of typos and graphics which were incomplete or wrong. I like the pics to match the text. Thanks to the author.

Very good book for beginner or for someone who wants to improve their skills
I've been fishing for many years but don't consider myself a true angler or expert fisherman by no means; I do it for fun and for relaxing and hanging with friends. I've caught my fair share of fish and enjoy the experience but I want to improve my skills and learn a lot more than I do and will probably be doing a lot more fishing now so I bought this book and it's very helpful, informative, and easy to understand. I like the pictures and various diagrams and so far it's been a very helpful resource and I expect to improve my technique so I can share the sport with my daughter

Not what I was looking for
I was looking for a basic book on tackle and simple techniques for catching various species of fish. What the book provided was a lot of nostalgic stories about the authors experiences fishing and very little else. I would have expected more information about the various types of reels, how to filet or scale fish, knots and baits. This information was sparse at best.

Practical advice from an expert
As the title suggest this book is for beginners although I would add for adults also. I wouldn't buy this for my daughter but would look for something more basic even than this book. For me though, the level of detail was just about right. I have mixed feelings about the presentation but I felt the author was a seasoned writer who had written other books which made this one a joy to read. I don't remember seeing any typos or other editing mistakes either. I find it hard to find any books with practical advice but this book has it all and more. And it is very easy to tailor your reading for the level of beginner. Since I will only be pond fishing from the shore, I focused only on those chapters and the initial ones highlighting the authors recommendation for beginners. The kindle version did not have any formatting problems.
