Claymore, Vol. 19: Phantoms in the Heart

Priscilla Awakens...again
This is the 19th volume in the Claymore series. This series is rumored to be wrapping up later this year with volume 27. While the last two books in this series were amazing, I felt like this one lagged a little.Helen, Deneve, and Clare continue to fight the Awakened Priscilla. Priscilla is pretty much going on a rampage in her effort to get to Clare. Their fight is further complicated when the joint Rafaela/Luciela evolves into something even more deadly. After the above we fellow Phantom Miria as she travels east to take on the Organization. She meets the Twins and number 10, Rafutera...two secret weapons the Organization has kept hidden. This was a decent book in this series. There continues to be a ton of action and the illustration was well done. I didn’t like this book quite as much as the last couple volumes in the series; it was a bit more scattered and not as much happened.Overall a well done volume in this manga series. I continue to enjoy this series and would recommend it to those who like action-packed fantasy manga.

Brilliant
Every volume just gets better, even if it is soul crushing like the end of this volume is. Can't wait to read the next one.

It keeps getting better and better =D
Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human. In the 19th installment Priscilla is still pursuing Clare even though she’s already proven to be a weak opponent. If not for Helena and Deneve Clare would have already been killed by Priscilla. While they try to get away she’s hot on their heels but she’s distracted by Dauf who’s avenging his mistress. Thanks to the attacks Priscilla has regained some of her memories remember Teresa and assuming that Clare is her in a new form. However the attached Awakens draw her attention giving the girls the chance to get away from her but something strange happens and next Clare is taken from them sucked into the swirling mass that is attempting to consume Priscilla. Will the girls make it out? What about Raki?I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She's grown a lot in the last several volumes leading up to the battle in the north. After faking her death along with her fellow claymore's she's returned after seven years to battle the Organization. While she may not be the strongest she's determined and unwilling to give up. She's one of those underdog characters you can't help liking. We've seen a little of Raki having grown up into a man who fights yoma but now he's at the hands of the Organization and Priscilla is off to kill ClareI’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. While it’s been a while I don’t think the anime has gone this far in the series. I don’t remember the girls taking on the organization which is where the story has turned. It’s interesting learning that the organization which has been creating claymores for a long time may not be the good guys after all. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight against the Yoma that they created. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to base on but I’m super addicted to them. They are perfect for when I have some downtime or when I feel like reading back to back. I already know that the ending is close as I’m about halfway done. I’m anxious to see how it’s all going to play out.

Wonderful Manga
Claymore, Vol. 19 / 978-1421540788I'm a very devoted fan of both the Claymore anime and the manga. I love the crisp black-and-white artwork, and while I realize it's not for everyone I personally think it's a perfect style for graphic novels. I find the action easy to follow, and the faces and body language to be surprisingly emotive. The story is complex and compelling, and I'm all in until the series finally finishes. I own this volume as a Nook Book e-book, and I assume it will shortly be ported to other online stores for sale.Volume 19 provides the following scenes:Scene 102: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 7Scene 103: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 8Scene 104: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 9Scene 105: The Ashes of Lautrec, Part 10Scene 106: Phantoms in the Heart, Part 1Scene 107: Phantoms in the Heart, Part 2Spoilers ahead! This volume opens with Dietrich saving Cynthia and Yuma by directing the Abyss Feeders to attack the parasitic yoma from The Destroyer. Meanwhile, Deneve and Helen flee Priscilla while carrying an unconscious Clare. Priscilla is hindered in her hunt by a parasite-controlled Dauf; Priscilla defeats Dauf and attacks The Destroyer for getting in her way. The "statue" portion of The Destroyer crumbles and appears defeated, but the form was merely holding in a massive black cloud of tortured bodies and emotional turmoil. Before Helen and Deneve can react, Clare is sucked into the black mass, along with Priscilla. Helen, Deneve, Yuma, Cynthia, and Dietrich are barely able to flee and head back to Rabona. In Rabona, Miria draws her sword against Tabitha and leaves the city to take on the Organization alone. She intends to kill humans for the first time in her life: the humans running the Organization and ruining the lives of countless innocents in their lust for power and control. Miria strikes down every warrior called out to defend the headquarters, but she strikes without killing and only incapacitates the Claymores. Though this takes more effort on her part and is done at a greater risk, she is committed to protecting the innocent Claymore who have been lied to by the Organization.Unfortunately, the Organization reveals a hidden trump card: the hidden Number 10 warrior, Rafutera, has been trained from childhood as an "anti-warrior warrior". She taps into the mental state of those who would attack the Organization and manages to cloud, confuse, and distract them. Miria becomes disoriented, and then dreams that she sees her deceased friend Hilda before her. While she smiles at her friend, Miria is cut down by the other Claymore.~ Ana Mardoll

Phantoms in the Heart
As Deneve, Helen and Clare attempt to escape from the rampaging Priscilla but they are delayed by the spawn of the Destroyer. With Priscilla attacking anything that gets in the way of her and Clare, she also turns on the Destroyer itself forcing it to reveal its true form. Meanwhile Miria decides that it is time to move against the Organisation itself but they are far from defenceless. This is another very good volume of `Claymore' with some nice action and some very interesting cliff-hangers. The volume also ends with a quite emotional moment and leaves the story in an interesting position for the next volume. `Claymore' is a very nice series and this volume is no exception and is well worth a full five stars.

More of a filler chapter than anything else.
I have felt that the Claymore series may slowly be running out of steam in its content and unfortunately this chapter did nothing to dispel that. There is still room for that to change, but there will need to be a great deal of life and energy pumped back into the forthcoming chapters. I was excited to see the return of Priscilla in this chapter, but ultimately it ended up being a bit of a damp squib. There were some bright moments, but they were often countered by bland moments. I will continue to follow this story as I still firmly believe it has potential to come good once more. The development of Rubel's character, for example, is one that I shall be keeping a keen eye on. Overall this chapter did not really lift the story as much as it badly needed to be, but instead was more of a filler. However, with some imaginative tweaks and twists there is still room for more!

Such an awesome volume!!!
Claymore 19 is the best, if you've read 18 then you probably couldn't wait to read this one just like me, things are just getting crazy in the Claymore universe, and there is a lot of really unexpected stuff that happens in this volume, I literally cannot wait until Volume 20 is released I need to see what happens next!!! This is one of my favourite manga series I'm following right now, man oh man are you missing out if you have not read this volume or this series!
