Good Griddle, but...
Griddle side works well, but the flat side, i.e. for pancakes or grilled cheese, has branding in the middle of the pan that leaves impressions in the bread and the pancakes

Lookin good...
Wow. I just received these and immediately opened them. Solid package job (Russian nesting dolls came to mind). Overall, beautiful pans to look at. They appear to be of nice quality despite a couple design flaws that I perceived. The obvious, as others have noticed, is the logo embossed into the face of the griddle casting. Mind boggling that the decision to do this as large as they did in the middle of the cooking surface cleared the design phase. Numb really. Detracts from the very function of that side of the piece. They could have just as easily embossed the logo between the ribs of the grill side where function and performance would have been less affected. The piece could have been an 'A' but falls to a grade of a 'C-' from me as the grill side has less value to me than a smooth griddle surface. A few people should be thunked up side the head for brainstorming and running with that idea. The only other gripe I perceived on looking them over is they could have designed the lip ring on the Dutch oven cover to be a snuggier fit so the lid didn't have as much play on top. Without using it, my guess is that this could affect cooking performance with a less than ideal sealed cooking environment if the lid doesn't contact the pot all the way around. If this is the case, the pot will lose out on the benefit of the small amount of steam pressure granted by a well fitting lid. Besides those 2 issues, I'm pleased with the purchase. The skillets are more of a "chef skillet" design as they are shallower pans with rounding curved sides rather than traditional straight, slanted sides. The handles are more comfortable to hold than traditional cast iron skillets. They could have made them even better if they hollowed out the space closest to handle like Lodge is doing with their Blacklock line or how Stargazer designs their pan handles to mitigate heat. I can appreciate the handles on the Dutch oven lid and pot as they are nicely designed for function and appearance. They are a sleek contemporary set of cast iron pans. If they are as resistant to rust as claiming to be than I'm only gonna be that much happier with my purchase down the road.

Love it
Fits on an inexpensive Ozark camp stove. Although they say it comes pre-seasoned... I dunno, we still did the oven process. No doubt it works better that way and has become more non stick. Not complaining. The shape and size was what I was after. Perfect. Heavy.

No No
Everything I cook on it sticks and the grill side is especially hard to clean. I have several cast iron pans so I know how to season them. I am very disappointed.

Best value by far compared to another well known american brand
This is the first review of the new sabatier cast iron frying pan (I bought this & was not given it so this is not a biased review!)I own many cast iron pans including Aga, Le creuset, Ikea, chasseur, Lodge & supermarket bought own brand. Most of my pans & casserole dishes are enamel coated but the few i have in bare cast iron including very expensive ones are overshadowed by this pan.The Finnish of the cast is far superior with a finer texture than lodge & has only a couple of very very small casting pin holes as is very common on this type of cookware. The quality of this item is what I expect from sabatier & well above many other Chinese cast items. With a few more seasonings using flax seed oil this will probably relegate my higher priced pan to the sidelines.Although it will take a while to be properly non stick it will be worth the effort.I also own the 12.5 inch version of this which is huge & great if you like a massive steak with all the trimmings. You don't seem to find many of these sabatier frying pans in the UK at the moment so if you see one buy it, You won't be disappointed.

The size of this Dutch oven is perfect. It was also very affordable and is high quality.. I expect it will last many years if not a lifetime.
