Great for dovetails
This saw is great for making hand cut dovetails.

I absolutely love this saw
I absolutely love this saw. This has become the first saw that I grab whenever I am cutting off pieces by hand. It is easy to use, cuts through wood quickly, and leaves behind a very smooth finish. Would buy another one without hesitation, and will be buying more Gyokucho products after seeing how well this worked.

Perfect little saw for fine joinery. Great thin, sharp blade. Super rigid with the spline for accurate cuts.

excellent budget dovetail saw
This is an excellent high quality budget dovetail saw. Japanese pull saws have long been an affordable option to western saws for quality and with the recent influx of boutique western saws they now offer an affordable option. This is small so I wouldn't use it in anything over 1/2 inch thick, however it could possibly be pushed to 3/4 inch but would cut very slow. Leaves a very clean cut and fine kerf, the biggest problem is that it is difficult to get a coping saw blade in to cut out the waste if that is your jam, however a fret saw blade works ok.

Super thin blade but as teh cutting is done on the pull stroke there is no concern of it bending or flexing. The teeth are very fine so it makes a clean cut with very few saw marks. It's light as a feather so you will not tire as quickly if you have a lot of cutting to do. Personally, I find cutting on the pull stroke makes it easier for me to keep the saw on track. There is a slight technique to using it to get the best results though. There are a number of youtube videos showing you how to use it so I would recommend watching these first before deciding if you want to try one out. Blades are replaceable and when attached to the handle feel very solid. I have not had it loosen up yet. As with any hand saw you will still need to use a plane, chisel or sandpaper to clean up the cut. I now use this instead of my back saw for most of my cutting. Pros - Very thin and light - Easier to keep the blade on track cutting on the pull stroke - Paper thin kerf. - Blades can be replaced - Blades attach solidly to the handle - Does not flex when cutting as the cut is in the draw stroke - Cuts fairly quickly Cons - Will cut fine if you have no experience but there is a technique to getting the best results. - The straight narrow handle can make your hand cramp after a while. Probably due to me gripping it too tightly.
