The difference is in the texture. And if you’re already entertaining the idea of spending over a hundred dollars on an ice shaver, then you probably already know that. I’ll get to the point: If you want to make shave ice at home—fluffy, snow-like, Hawaiian-style shave ice without any big chunks or shards of ice—just get this machine. You’ll be glad you did. The Little Snowie 2 from Snowie really does shave ice cubes into legit powdery snow that you can flavor to your heart's content. If you want shave ice, get it. If you want snow cones full of chunky ice that doesn't soak up flavor and that cuts your mouth when you eat it, get something else.Why this machine is worth the money:TEXTURE. The Little Snowie 2 is probably the best shaver you can buy for home use. If it doesn’t produce the texture of an industrial shaver used at a shave ice stand, then it gets pretty dang close. I’ve used mine multiple times and I’ve been happy with the snow-like texture of the ice every time. No chunks. No shards. Just snow. It’s great to be able to make that kind of shave ice right at home. The snow-like texture soaks up the syrup flavor much better than chunky ice, which usually means you have to use less syrup while getting a better tasting shave ice.SAFETY. If you’re making shave ice, most likely there will be kids around from time to time. And when there are kids around, safety is always a concern. The Little Snowie 2 is safe because there are no exposed blades and the motor doesn’t run until the lid is pressed closed. There’s no power switch or “pulse” button like on a blender. If the lid isn’t closed, it won’t run because the lid is the power button. There are no blades within finger’s reach on the machine, and there are no sharp attachments or removable blades to cut yourself on.EASE OF USE. The safety feature of the lid also makes it easy to operate. There are no settings or speeds to mess around with. Just put some ice cubes into the hopper and then press the lid closed, and in a few seconds you have a cup of perfectly shaved ice. It’s also easy to clean, while the built in handle makes it easy to carry or to move from place to place during a party. The fact that it uses regular ice cubes from your home freezer adds to the simplicity and convenience of the machine.QUALITY. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the quality control of Snowie and the engineering and build quality that goes into their products. My experience with this shaver backs that up so far. It is well built, sturdy, and works just like they say it will.CONS: There aren’t any big ones that I can think of. Is it noisy? Well, it’s an ice shaver. It’s going to make noise. But I don’t think it’s louder than any other blender or similar appliance. Getting the perfect dome shape on top, if that’s important to you, can be a bit tricky and takes some practice to get the hang of. The shaper works but sometimes the ice sticks to the inside of the shaper/chute and doesn’t come out in a perfect dome, but to me that’s not a big deal.Overall, the Little Snowie 2 earns a 5-star review because it works just the way it’s supposed to and leaves everyone happy when they’re shoveling fluffy, flavorful shave ice into their mouth on a hot summer day. The kids and their friends love eating a Snowie in the backyard by the pool, and usually when the adults see how fluffy the snow comes out, they want to eat one too. I'm happy with this purchase and I'm sure I'll get a ton of use out of it for years.

It is as light and fluffy as the shave ice stands and I love that I can use the ice cubes my freezer makes.... it couldn’t be easier. The bundle kit is a great addition. My kids love the shaved ice cups and spoons that it comes with, especially the two spoons that change colors when they get cold. I love that I can wash them and don’t have to continually buy disposable cups and shaved ice straws. The drip mat is great too. It easily collects the water that drips from the shaved ice machine and then I can bend it and take it to the sink to drain. There’s no watery mess and no need to put a towel down to collect the water. It is easy and safe to use, even for my 9 and 6 year olds.We just hosted a 4th of July party with family and friends and it easily made over 40 cups. Each cup took seconds to make and everyone was impressed with how light and fluffy the shaved ice was and how quick and easy it was to make. We wanted to have a Hawaiian shaved ice option so we got vanilla ice cream and sweetened condensed milk. The kids had smaller cups and were able to keep coming back for more and try new flavors each time. The adults had bigger cups and they all really liked the ice cream and sweetened condensed milk with the shaved ice and syrups. Everyone, adults and kids alike, were able to enjoy this fun treat!

I love this machine! I have to admit I was skeptical at first. I didn't think there was any way this was going to be as good as the snow cones you get from the snow shacks. I was hoping it would be at least slightly better than the crappy home snow cone makers I've used in the past. It was way, way better! The snow is light and fluffy and every bit as good as what I can buy from the snow shack down the road.I liked that it uses regular ice cubes right from my freezer. No molds or blocks of ice needed. I did discover that my ice makes a difference. If I use my ice immediately out of the freezer when it's coldest and driest I get fluffier snow. If I let it sit in the hopper and start to melt I get wetter, chunkier snow.I also liked that it is simple to use and safe. My kids can use it easily, no problems at all. They just pull out ice, flavors and a cup and they are ready to go.If you have kids, or like to entertain, or just want a really good snow cone whenever you want, then I highly recommend this machine!

I wanted to return this after using it the first time. It’s loud. It’s expensive. It’s a uni tasker. It takes up cabinet space. I didn’t particularly like the sample syrups that came with it.What saved it was realizing that I could make adult frozen drinks as well. Then I played around with syrups. Forget store bought. Make your own by starting with a simple syrup (1 cup water & 1 cup sugar; bring to boil for 2 minutes) then grab a koolaid drink packet in your flavor of choice and add to syrup. Cool and store in fridge. Better, make several flavors for variety.When you use the correct size ice (normal ice cube tray size) it works fast. Noise doesn’t bother me so much anymore and it’s a hit with kids and adults alike. I’m keeping it.

This is a professional machine, not a toy. There is a wow factor when using it. It’s fast and efficient and makes snow-like ice in seconds with zero waste. Use the included cups because making a seal with the output area is crucial. Rotate the cup for an even fill, back it off a bit for a lighter density, press it upward to pack the ice and get a bigger serving :). Adding flavor comes last so the unit never gets sticky or discolored. At a kids party I would have one person make the snow cones and one person flavor them. That’s because you can fill the cups with shaved ice so fast you will t want to slow down. You’ll be able to make ten a minute. The hopper holds a lot of ice and I find wet ice is not as good as dryer
