Accurate and easy to use
Perfect for all cooking that needs a certain temp. I thought about a digital thermometer but I always used this easy read one. It is very easy to read. Sits securely in my pot and I don’t have to replace a battery Cleaning is just a swish under running water

CDN DTC450 Candy Thermometer - A Keeper!
I finally decided to replace my "paddle" style candy thermometer that hasn't worked right from the get go. That one was difficult to read and inaccurate. It resulted in my first negative review of a product purchased on Amazon.I decided to go digital and ordered this one from Amazon. I received it on Friday Dec. 14, 2018 and sent it back on Friday Dec 14, 2018. I tried testing it in boiling water, which boils at 210F here in Phoenix. The thermometer readings/screen turned to all "8"s and then went black before it even reached 210F. So, back it went. I decided to re-order it and, I'm glad I did because this 2nd one works as expected.I first tested it in boiling water. Right on the money. I recommend knowing your boiling point where you live for greater accuracy.Today, I made a batch of pecan brittle and this thermometer was a joy to use. I preset it to the desired stage, the red light flashed and beeped when I was 3 degrees below my target temperature (250F). I then finished cooking it to the final stage (300F) and again, it was nice to easily read the temperature and also respond to the alarm's red light and beeps. I really like the alarm going off when the temperature is 3 degrees below the target temperature. There is such a range between what the temperatures for any stage when you're making candy.I make candy once a year, so I can only hope that this thermometer works next year. I'll test it in boiling water before using again. I ruined multiple batches of candy with my old paddle type because it was wildly inaccurate and the devil to read those little lines. I can't yet rate the durability of this CDN unit, but it is easy to set up and use, once you have the instructions. I printed out user instructions I found online because none came with the thermometer. It's not easy to clean, but no candy thermometer is. You just have to be careful and mindful to avoid getting anything other than the probe wet. What I don't like is that I can't manually turn this unit off. It stays on for an hour and shuts itself off if not in use. That drains the battery. Unlike other reviewers, I did not find the steam guard ring or the pan clip to be hard to install or use.

Perfect for infant milk bottles
I am definitely not using this for its intended purpose, but I've tried several different thermometer options and this one has come closest to being perfect. When warming a bottle for a baby, I wanted 5 things, in order of importance:1. Being able to set an alarm at a specific temperature2. Constant updates so that you don't go over temperature3. Being able to easily position the thermometer in the bottle while it is warming in a bottle warmer4. Being able to easily clean5. Being able to _remember_ the alarm, so that you don't need to reprogram every time you turn on the thermometer6. being backlit so it can be easily read in the darkMost thermometers I've tried only meet some of this criteria, but this one has met all the requirements except the last. If this was back-lit, it would be perfect, but it would also probably drastically reduce the battery life. Also the alarm goes off 3 degrees or so before it actually meets temperature, but its easy enough to increase the target temperature to compensate.Of particular note: the heat shield makes it perfect for positioning the device over an open bottle!

Super durable
TLDR; really stands up to the test of time.I have had this thermometer for nearly five years. Originally purchased to make candy and caramels but it is now a staple in our kitchen. But here is the wildest test for it that I do not recommend. I was baking a large cut of meat. Set the thermometer to the desired temperature and inserted in to the meat. My kids came barreling in to the kitchen arguing so I shut the oven door for "just a second" to shoo them out. I obviously got distracted and resumed my other cooking. Twenty minutes later I hear beeping coming from the oven that the temperature has been reached. I fly to the oven to save the thermometer but the screen was completely black and not operational. I put the thermometer on the counter to return to after dinner and search the brand name to replace it. A couple of hours later I returned to find that the screen was back to normal! I have continued using it without issue! Would not recommend using the thermometer in the oven but keep hope if you accidentally do.

Great thermometer
I have had one of these for many years. I use it for candy making. I finally had to replace my first one after at least 8 years. Never replaced the battery but the digital readout faded and was unreadable.I love the alarm that tells you when you are getting close to temp. The clip fits easily on the pot and stays in place. Highly recommend this if you need accurate temperature readings.

Looks can be deceiving!
Item came as described. It looked perfect! I loved how I could clip it to my pan. I was so excited to make hard candy with my new thermometer! However it did not work, it took forever to read the temperature. I burned my first batch because the thermometer was stuck at 250. However, it was past that.I than calibrated my thermometer. I boiled water and checked to see if it would register. It did but way after my digital did instantly.I then made candy and checked with my digital and the thermometer never went past 235. It was stuck it was very slow at reading compared to my other thermometer. It did not work. I did not work for reading boiling water until 3 min later and that’s too long when making candy.Just check before you rely on it!
