Excellent woofer for a two-drive compact bass reflex
The Dayton TCP115-4 4” woofer meets its specifications on the Dayton website. It is exactly what I hoped it would be, with a good clean sound and smooth frequency response in a correctly ported bass-reflex cabinet. I needed a free air resonance (Fs) a bit less than 55Hz to go in a small bass reflex cabinet measured with a Helmholtz resonance of 38Hz (a combination to fit the optimum ratio of 1:0.71). Each of the pair of Dayton woofers I bought has Fs of 53.8Hz, verified with audio test gear. They are a perfect fit mechanically, acoustically and electrically to supplant the existing unsatisfactory units. It is almost as if the cabinets I’m fitting these to were designed with this particular Dayton in mind, and merely had the wrong drivers (85Hz Fs) fitted at the factory. Now instead of the horrible boom at about 80-90Hz and nothing much below, the response is smooth from about 40Hz and almost flat past 3KHz before needing help from the tweeter. The TCP115-4 4” code explained TCP is this particular series of woofer drivers 115 is the overall nominal frame diameter (actually 116.5mm) -4 is the nominal impedance of 4 Ohms (actually 3.2 Ohms in series with 0.97 mH) 4” is the nominal diameter of the cone area. Useful notes. Cone excursion can be up to 4mm p-p; allow 10mm clearance from mounting surface! The mounting hole needs to be 93mm diameter The mounting gasket is loose with four notches matching four mounting holes. The four 4.4mm diameter mounting holes are on a 108mm diameter circle. The speaker is 65mm deep overall The back of the magnet is 58mm behind the external mounting surface. The assembly of magnet and pole pieces is 80mm in diameter and 25mm deep. The symmetrical pole pieces are designed for lowest distortion in a vented cabinet.

Perfect bass woofer for it's size.
Built for a stereo Bluetooth speaker I made . I added a subwoofer crossover. And bought 2 tweeters. With 2 other mid drivers. Add a Bluetooth amp and boom box pleasures to be had. And a good price. Looks the part.

Fantastic performer, 4mm of xmax!?
These drivers go for peanuts in the US, but Dayton Audio is a respectable brand. Honestly these woofers are rather understated, 4mm of xmax is impressive for a 4" driver and these woofers are forgiving in enclosure type, so are a good drop in for a damaged PC speaker sub-woofer or portable speaker projects where you don't want to give up the low end. I put this in a compact sealed enclosure with about 1.7L of internal volume, and these drivers put out a wonderfully warm and confident bass even touching 35Hz by a hair, with extension down to 45Hz solid when driven by a fair amount of power. So I can see these performing wonderfully in a compact 2-way system such as a bookshelf speaker or small bluetooth speaker project.

Cute little sub
Cute little sub for a homemade speaker system. Running off usb power with crossover and car speaker on the high end. I'm sure I can get more out of it when I upgrade the preamp

This little guy as is with no enclosure just to see what it does is impressive. Definitely can be paired with a good tweeter in a 2-way configuration since the tones in the mid and treble region is very smooth and undistorted unless pushed a little too hard. Plenty of excursion for an upcoming Bluetooth Ammo Can speaker project I've been working on for a while, may as well use this, a fitting tweeter, ported and tuned to around 43 Hz. I'll probably end up getting more of these little 4" woofers in the future because I have never seen a driver of this size move this much!
