One of the best investment books ever written, imo
Ok, this is a bid claim, but I think this book is one of the greatest investment books ever written. Why?Because it shows you how many ways there are to outperfom the market and that's the important part. The people who end up doing well have their own style and investment system because outperfoming the market requires you think differently than everyone else in the market. You have to see what others don't see.So, this book gives you a great overview of all the ways people have made lots of money, and also the pitfalls they encountered when they became super-successful... which is just as important.Just a note... I've read about everything about Buffett, Soros, Value Investing, and all the "classics"... this book was my favorite.

Good but I found more value in Market Wizards by Jack D. Schwager
John does a great job broadly explaining the road different investors took to join in rare club of beating the S&P 500 performance over the long term. Each chapter covers a different investor. The last chapter summarizes key points and the author's opinion on how to become a successful investor.Although I found the book enjoyable, the book was too general and simple (e.g. timing the market does not work). I would much rather read the Market Wizards series by Jack Schwqger because Market Wizards successfully dives deep into the investor's mind and details his or her investing method (e.g. only taking 5:1 risk to reward ratios or cutting losses). Thus, although this book does a great job giving a broad overview of each investor's success, Market Wizards dives deep into each investor's road to success. In other words, Money Masters of Our Time gives a biography of each investor's road to success, while the Market Wizards gives details of each investor's investing strategy and mentality: both important but I find Market Wizards more valuable. In summary, I would read this book only if you already read Market Wizards series.

excellent book to learn investing
Money Masters of our time by John TrainThe book describes the way very succesful investors did their craft. What one observes is the thorough way most of these people do their work. They investigate for example the annual and quarterly reports, but also how honest andstock holder oriented management is.Another interesting point is that one can wait untill the best change of a succesful buy of stockoccurs. It is not a matter of doing the buy quickly."Wait untill a very good chance occurs, one can hear then almost the sound of the cashregister"!I have learned a lot by reading and rereading the book.yours faithfully,Fredericus

... books on finance and the financial markets by authors like Burton Malkiel ans Charles Ellis to name a few
I have read over 50 books on finance and the financial markets by authors like Burton Malkiel ans Charles Ellis to name a few. I am a true student and disciplined reader, who always finishes a book he starts. Money Masters was so boring and unstimulating that I only read a few pages and then relegated it to the dustbin...sorry to say this book is pregnant with an enormous amount of dullness. I recommend to use your time and money elsewhere.

One of the best investment writers you'll ever read
A superb writer on investing who's work (published in the 70s and 80s) has fallen through the cracks. I would happily trade any ten or twenty books on investing for this one, or anything else that Train wrote. He's incredibly well informed and his analysis is penetrating. He should be a lot better known that he is. Note: The guy who recommended Train's writing to me made $150 million before he turned 40.

Excellent book - a must read for serious investors
Fantastic book - the sections on Jim Rogers, George Soros and Warren Buffett are particularly illuminating.I am an avid Jim Rogers fan and believe this book is one of the greatest and most comprehensive texts on his legendary investment style.Highly recommended!
