A "must have" Horary textbbook
This is a book on traditional Horary astrology. Its author is responsible for reviving traditional (or classical - as she calls it) - astrology and relies heavily on the work of William Lilly. Traditional astrology does not take into account the outer planets, is based upon the work of Hellenistic, arabic and medieval astrologers and focuses more to factual answers than psychological explanations. Horary astrology in particular, is the Art of answering exact questions (will I marry X? Should I buy this house?, etc). The book is written in a discourse and personal style, containing tables, strictures, explanations of essential terms (like antiscia, collection and translation of light) and many delineated charts. Equally important for novice and experienced astrologers, Barclay's Horary Astrology Rediscovered is a fundamental textbook taking the reader through all the fundamentals of delineating a chart, in compact, full of information chapters. Equally good for introducing general astrology to the novice as it is for delving deeper into Horary, she does not waste much time in idle talk. Practically every paragraph contains important astrological rules and aphorisms. Includes a short - but excellent - introduction to Mundane Astrology and several historical chapters of ancient and medieval astrologers along with examples of their work. A must have book for astrologers.

Imagine a randomized phone book, in paragraph form
I've tried really hard for several days to extract something useful from this book, but I officially give up. It's just not woven together very well; instead of a coherent presentation, it reads more like a stream-of-consciousness memory dump. To show you what I mean, I'll quote a few sentences from page 117 in Chapter 8, "Divisions of the Ecliptic". I stress that I have omitted nothing: ================= "If the Ascendant or its ruler is in a fixed sign, it shows continuity of purpose, and a person who is true to his word. "The water signs are considered fruitful, and thus are useful in pregnancy questions. Barren signs are Gemini, Leo, Virgo, and Aquarius. "Gemini, Virgo, Libra, and Aquarius are known further as human signs. In the case of a lost animal, those signs show it is where humans inhabit. Animal signs are Aries, Taurus, Leo, the last part of Sagittarius, the first part of Capricorn. For some reason Leo and Sagittarius are called ferral. Mute signs are the water signs, especially if Mercury, the planet ruling voice, is in them. "Three signs are called running. They are Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo (do they walk fastest?) [sic]. Standing signs are Gemini, Virgo, and Aquarius; sitting signs are Taurus, Libra, and Capricorn, and lying down signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, "Signs commanding and obeying are those equally distanced from the solstice points. The ancients invented many more." "The virtue of this information is that it makes you look carefully at the sign in which your chief significator is positioned, and to deduce as much information as possible from it within the context of the question. It is a detective game." ================= Try to imagine 300+ pages, most of them rambling on like this. Much too disjoint for my taste.

I am kind of dissappointed with the the book. Had great expectations from Olivia Barclay after having read lot of her articles. May be because I follow John Frawley and hence didn't agree with some of the things she said e.g. Considerations before a judgement. The book is not worth the price because it contains mundane astrology also. I have attached screenshots of the content since the ebook format is not available.
