Almost Necessary
I bought this to use with the 2L and 4L collapsible bladder products by Hydrapak. I use it to dispense fluids instead of having to pour from an odd pouch to another. I either set the bladder up so the water reaches the spout easily, or I squeeze the pouch to empty it of air, and then the water flows ensuring more control over the water flow. The shower nozzle is great for when at the beach or hiking, and wanting to rince your hands of dirt/sand before eating.

I like it. I did blow my hydrapack up with air with this and it held. No water yet
I have not used water yet, but did blow my hydrapack up with air using this it held, just getting ready to head back to an earthquake

Great kit; only needed the 44mm cap with a hose hole. Unnecessary expense loses a star.
None of the 44mm capped bottles from Hydrapak come with a cap with the hole needed to receive output of a gravity filtration hose nozzle. I can only guess this is marketing greed or a serious oversight by the design folks since they advertise their big 8L bottle as compatible with gravity filter systems.Option 1: Buy two of their big 8L reservoirs just for the second cap to use on a smaller/LIGHTER, 1L, wide-mouthed collapsible bottle.Option 2: Buy two of their big 8L reservoirs and carry them both.Option 3: Buy one 8L reservoir and this kit for $20 just for the cap so you can use it on a regular 1-3L Hydrapak bottle laying on the ground under the dirty water reservoir and not get dirt in the clean water.Option 4: Buy the 8L reservoir and a Velocity or similar bladder with a hose recepticle. (I don't use bladders so the bite valve goes in storage, un-used.)Maybe the little shower nozzle will be nice. So far not. I've never used the hose/thumb-valve; can't imagine a use for it on hikes.

Beware of leaks.
The good news: The quick-connect fitting works with my two generations of Mil-Spec Camelbak bladders (I guess it's supposed to, but its nice that it does). Hose seems to lock firmly in place with an easy spring-loaded ejection. The bad news: Mine arrived cracked, fresh out of the package. I'm glad this happened at home and not where I NEEDED that water to stay in the bladder. Also, there is a strong chemical smell/taste here. I will be asking for a replacement, so hopefully it will wash off.All in all, I can't say I'd trust this. There is plenty of clearance in the opening of the bladder to allow this cap to be more reinforced though.

Broken Levers
I have the large 8 liter water storage called the Expedition. It comes with the plug and play valve, but unfortunately after light use the lever and the valve broke. Its held in place by two plastic pins and one pin sheered off.My only option to replace the lever is to purchase this entire kit. The cap isn't even for the expedition pack it fits the smaller pack called the seeker so that's of no use to me.after 3 weeks the new lever broke in the same place. I went to hydropak's website to order, once again, this entire kit just for the lever and on their website is a single one star review talking about my exact issue and how they drilled out the plastic pins and fabricated their own metal pin that goes all the way through the lever and valve head. That will also be my course of action.also, I want to add that I attempted to leave a review on the hydropak website but after 1 week I have yet to see my review added. Hydropak customer service contacted me offering a replacement under warranty but I'm not too interested in having a third lever break on me again when I can fabricate my own improved lever like another dissatisfied customer suggested.
