History and training methods
This is a great book for schtzhund and just about anyone else interested in the dog world. I purchased it, not because i want to train in schutzhund, but beacuse of the knowledge it would give me in the use of personal protection dogs or attack dog. Now that im familiar with how it works and the history behind it. I chose not to train my breed in this field. There is many other types of work for dogs and what fascinates me the most is livestock guardians and estate guardian. Very good book.

Good book for Shutzhund basics
This book is as was described. It helps in the understanding of Schutzhund theory and training. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of training their dog for competition. It will give the basics that will be required when in a club setting with other dogs and their trainers. The photos are also helpful. This book with it's tips and training techniques should be paired with a good training class through a recognized club. The book was purchased used and was in great condition.

A must for GSD owners
There is only so much I can actually do with my 14-year old resuced GSD, but I really think that if more people understood the types of things these dogs were meant to do (which do not include sitting around all day and lacking a confident leader to follow), far lass would end up in rescues every year. Just the first section was really helpful. This applies to other working breeds too, of course, but this is one of several books that have helped me get inside my dog's head, helped me understand how he's been misunderstood all of his life, and is helping us tap into his brilliant brain the best we can in his golden years. Good stuff!

Thorough, good explanation of methods and terminology for the beginner.
I am a beginner in the world of Schutzhund. I spent $40 on some online videos that teach technique without bothering to explain how to get to this particular level or the meaning of the terms the guy uses in the videos. I wrote the author of the videos and asked for help and he has arrogantly not answered my letter. Interestingly enough, a younger version of the author of the videos is pictured with the author of this book in one of the pictures toward the end of the book; so clearly the arrogant author of the videos learned his training techniques from the author of this book but failed to learn how to be a good teacher or ambassador of the sport. The author of this book guides one through the training there is a good glossary of terms and she explains how to advance one's training as appropriate. This book I can add to my liberary and I don't have to create a user name and password to access it, or even have a computer to read it.

Good general information on Schutzhund
Having no experience on this sport or any knowledge on how these dogs are trained I found this book very useful for someone who wants to learn the general rules and basics.Good choice for someone looking for his first "schutzhund" book but will seem kind of incomplete for someone searching for something more specific.Book is very easy to read and found it very useful on how dogs are selected from litters and the way you should raise them.I give it '5 stars' as a great beginning book on Schutzhund!

Very helpful for training my GSD puppy.
I bought this book without knowing how well it would fit my needs. It is written in a train the trainer / task detailing type format. While not written for training puppies, the authors include some insight on page 108. Chapter 10 Obedience: Basic Training is the most useful chapter for me. Particularly helpful for me and Max, Forcing the stay on page 115 breaks down each step to take, and how to respond to your dog's actions. Great return on my investment

Must Read if you have a working dog breed
As an accidental rescuer of a Dutch Shepherd, I am constantly trying to find more ways to both understand my dog, and provide better outlets for his needs. This book has delivered in spades. I will probably never compete or attempt to title my dog, but this book provides a sound basis for the type of training and exercise I need to keep him happy.
