Building a little breadboard programmer is fun the first time, but then when the cat gets it, it's less fun the second time. The ESP01's are a little more annoying to setup than the bigger siblings.I think it's worth building a basic one yourself, as a learning experience, then quickly move on to this.These ESP01's are so cheap and useful, it's easy to grab a bunch then setup for a single sensor and plant them all over the house. Doing that requires a reliable and easy way to program and test. I had tons of problems with a loose wire in the breadboard, or any number of things which made this frustrating. This little gadget makes a workflow for programming and testing so much more reliable.I have no issues with this in a USB3 port which puts out 5v.

Work great and are so convenient to program the ESP-01 modules. Arduino immediately and smoothly recognized the module and programming was a snap. There’s a switch to change from programming to use - makes testing and validation seamless

Easy to use. Just be careful that the ESP-01 is inserted correctly. Programs directly from the Arduino IDE. The only issue is that it doesn't have a reset switch so if you want to use the serial monitor you have to switch to UART and unplug/plug in the programmer to do the reset.

While this works for uploading sketches, it would be nice to have a reset switch. I find I prefer using a different programmer that has a reset switch, and automatically handles switching to upload mode without the need for a programming switch.

It programs the ESP8266-01 flawlessly and easily with the switch (though an actual reset switch might help).Having 2 lets me run the newly programmed device unattached or to ladder updates as I tweak the program.

Not sure what Sheerness, Thickness, or Stretch has to do with this product... But I gave it all 5 stars cause its a great programmer for the ESP-01. Its very easy to just plug it in and send AT commands, or flip the switch to program and upload a sketch from Arduino IDE. Also you don't need a separate 3.3V power supply to power the ESP-01. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is working with the ESP-01.

Worked perfectly to program ESP-01 modules. It uses the CH340 driver so manual driver installation is necessary. The switch for program verses debug is a nice touch.

Simple to use. There are instructables online if you're transitioning to the ESPs, as I was. Recent macOSes include necessary driver and I didn't have to download anything to use the device. The "Prog/UART" mode switch makes it easier to go back and forth between uploading and testing. A reset switch would be a handy addition but resetting can be accomplished with mini-grabber test lead. One glitch I found is that once in a while it will crash the computer when I unplug it from the USB port.

I've been using this device for just over a year now. The programmer worked great out of the box, and has continued to function properly over time. Slide the switch to the left to view serial communications. Slide the switch to the right and program the ESP-01 with ease. This is so much better than using a FTDI and jumper cables while also grounding the pin to upload new code. I should probably note my picture includes an ESP-01, not included with the programmer.

Had to return a different version which was the wrong voltage and provided no way to set program mode. This item however has a simple switch to 'prog' mode and voltage is all correct so easy to program an ESP-01.One thing to remember. The ESP-01 is power hungry and is unable to run from a low power (i.e. regular USB 1 or 2) port. Had to connect through a POWERED hub, then everything worked 100%.
