Ordered a slightly blemished one without instructions. This plus me being a little slow mentally at first led me to think it didn't work as I thought it would. But it does! It seems to defy gravity which made be question what I was doing. But it's fine! The cut on the side of the can is so clean and doesn't appear that it's cut that I thought it hadn't been cut. But it had been! (Just have faith and it comes open with little effort with the fingers.) Mentally slow buyer but a truly great product! EDIT: This morning(2/27/26) the can opener stopped working: no power. So I don't know anymore. After I wrote the review I tried it on larger 27 ounce cans and the results were not so good: it took much longer and I had to work with my hands to open the cut that it made.

DO NOT purchase this item! I purchased an older model of this item July 22, 2018. It worked perfectly, opening every can I could put under it, from 6oz tomato paste to #10 green beans. It just never failed. This opener I purchased Dec, 2025, has failed on too many cans. The photo I included was of a small can of chili I tried to open and what you see is after 3 times around. I would have been better off to use my old p38. And since I had such a good experience with the original opener, I never contacted Hamilton Beach to make them aware of this issue. My money is already lost, I just didn't want anyone else to lose money on a bad product. Evidently QC for Hamilton Beach has left the building.

I'm a Widower & cook for myself. The fact that it cuts the can on the side so I can use the lid to keep half a can of beans or corn without the need for another container. Another thing I like is that, unlike other can openers, it doesn't vibrate the can thus getting liquid all over the can & the counter. I ordered another brand but it got lost so I cancel the order. I'm so glad I did because that brand was not this brand.

I like the fact that this can opener cuts from the side, and thus when finished you don't have a top with sharp edges laying around. It takes a little practice to learn how to load a can. It does a nice job.

This is the only electric can opener that works like it should. Very easy to use.

The Best can opener I ever purchased. I promise everyone that if you buy this, you will not be sorry. No sharp lid to get cut and it’s not messy. Finally a can opener for everyone to use with ease. Terrible quality. I purchased this back in September 2025 and now ~ 1-2 months later it already isn't opening cans. it just grinds and grinds the can creating metal shards. I am out of the return window with Amazon so had to call Hamilton Beach. They are covering it under warranty but I have to pay Shipping and Handling which is 50% the cost of a new one. After only 1 to 2 months having to pay 50% more just to have a working can opener is ridiculous. Will NOT be purchasing a Hamilton Beach can opener in the future. Waste of money. Hopefully I didn't just pour good money after bad by paying $15 to have a replacement shipped to me. Update 12.20.25: The warranty replacement after only a couple cans is behaving the same way. I just got metal shards that cut my finger. So now I paid for one on Amazon that is trash AND a warranty replacement one directly from Hamilton Beach and both don't work and create dangerous metals shards. Their quality control has gone WAY done. Avoid at all costs. The photo of the can shows that it just grinds the top of the can.

Takes a few tries to get used to it, but once you get the hang it, it is the best opener as cans are cut WITHOUT any sharp edges on the can or lid afterwards. Cost a bit more than some traditional openers, but works much better.

Worked fairly well and I was happy with it. And today, after just 1 year of use (almost to the day), it stopped turning the cans. The motor runs but nothing happens. Piece of junk in my opinion.
