Q: does it measure a slump up to 8 inches

That I know of, I've measured 6" accurately.

Q: So, to be perfectly clear, Is this not useful, as a professional home inspector, to detect moisture in concrete block basement walls?

To be clear , as long as the concrete , block ,has no paint , stain , sealer etc on it , this will do the job ... also used it recently on wallboard ( drywall ) my invasive 2 prong meter was misplaced and that didn't matter whether painted/ textured / primed with tramex. Please remember on cement / block / concrete, must not be sealed/painted etc for tramex to work properly

Q: does it work on cinder block foundations

Hi there, these are intended to be used on clean, bare concrete slabs. Any measurements made on painted/adhesive-covered/cinder block etc should be used as comparative (ie "this area is damper than that area") and NOT quantitative (this is x% humidity). I hope this helps!

Q: Can it be used for finding a basement leak behind a finished wall?

Well , as it goes basements are below grade and there is moisture content at various levels anyway ... so you must determine your acceptable reading at the level your concerned with and the answer to your question is yes , up to 6 - 8 “ thick
