I finally upgraded my MacBook Pro which was a third generation retina – The last one that actually allowed you to remove the drive… it had a 512 gig hard drive which has served me well however I was constantly battling the overloaded state of the drive by removing files and then wishing I hadn’t and having to restore files… It was enough to drive you crazy so I found a 2 TB drive made by crucial and this adapter moved them into my machine after I backed up the whole drive to an external drive and restored everything in my machine is work Like a clock. In fact I believe I have faster access to the data that is on this drive you to the newer technology is being used then was used at the time that Apple originally bought the machine. It feels much quicker that’s all I can say definitely a good idea and this unit did the trick

I was having nightmares with icloud drive thinking that would be a great solution. Instead, it kept holding my files on the cloud and confusing a lot of my software. I lost 100s of hours in a year or so of work that I thought saved and didn't. This drive was big enough and with an adapter was very simple and easy to install. Since I've had it in a month or so it's worked great. It's fast and direct the way I need...NEVER again will I use iCloud drive for any serious work.

No issue installing into 2014 mid year MacBook Pro. 2.5ghz 4-Core i7.Installed it along with an inland 1TB ssd.Created an image of Big Sur before hand on a micro SD.Booted while holding option, selected sd cardDisk utility showed available drivePartitioned it for AppleRan Big Sur installation.Golden. No special steps.Figured this would help somebody.

I use this adapter for Macbook Air and it was easy to install and i install Samsung 970 EVO 500GB - NVMe PCIe M.2 2280. It was really fast for reading speed 1500MB/s and writing 1377MB/s and i bought another adapter for comparison but it gave me same speed as this one so this was really good one and every one not recommending using this one and i was afraid to buy it but it was really agood deal

Well it works, sort of. I am not sure if it's supposed to support Gen3 4X or not, but the performance I'm getting is terrible. I guess it could be the drive?

A great adaptor worked perfectly in MacBook Air 2014. Crucial NMVe SSD worked just fine, just a slight delay in initial first boot recognition by MacBook.
