RealFlight 6 Upgrade for G4 and Above

Top notch.
Installed flawlessly and works very well. This version has much better graphics and runs smoother. This was definitely worth the price.

Gold Standard for RC Flying
This review is specifically for the upgrade; if you don't already own G4 or G5.5 you should read the reviews for the standalone G6 product instead. After you load and register the upgrade and start the software, you'll find yourself at a new and well-detailed PhotoField (Santa Clara County Model Aircraft Skypark). Switch back to one of the old Sierra Nevada fields (Joe's Garage or Flight School), and you won't really see much difference from G5.5. Take your favourite airplanes out for a spin, and again, not much has changed, except that it seems easier to overstress an aircraft through violent maneuvers and pull off a wing or tail surface. The biggest changes seem to be an improvement to the helicopter realism. I don't fly the helis much, so it wasn't a big deal for me. You can also push & hold the reset button to "rewind" your flight, so you can review what you did wrong (or right) after you're done. There are some nifty new aircraft though, including an Me-109 and Sikorsky Skycrane with an operating grappling hook. There are also several new airports, which will add variety to your flying experience.Oddly though, the Bell H-13 helicopter (made famous by M*A*S*H) is inexplicably missing. Also, "Select Aircraft" causes the middle of the screen to momentarily flash back to your desktop, and then the aircraft selection window appears. It's not a big problem, but it becomes annoying if you switch aircraft very often. Interestingly enough, if you select one of the water areas, you'll find you can land almost any aircraft with retractable gear on the water, stop, and then take off again. Not realistic, but it is kind of fun.Don't forget to head to the RealFlight website for the free download of the Add-On files. These are all the aircraft from the old Add-On volumes. Although the site says they are "reworked for use with RealFlight G4 through RealFlight 6", when you use them you'll get a warning saying, "This vehicle was set up for a previous version of RealFlight. It may need to be adjusted in the Aircraft Editor to realistically fly in this version." I took several out and they worked fine.Do you really need this upgrade? Well, it doesn't really add a whole lot for your $50. If you're only using G5.5 occasionally, you should probably just stick with it. But if you're a frequent flier, or spend a lot of time with the helicopters, you'll definitely want to buy this version.

Great Product
I love the Real Flight products from Knife Edge Software. They have very realistic flight physics, and the editor for planes is getting better and better, with ability to tune weight, motors, batteries and CoG for accurate and realistic flight mimic of the planes you really fly. I do wish they had a few simple things, like filters and search abilities for the planes (check box for airplanes or helicopter filter, or jet or EDF, gas or electric or glider) to help the user find different airframes easier...with all the expansion packs and other planes, it begins to be difficult to look for planes you want to fly that match a certain style that you are looking for at the time.

Great upgrade to great product
Though it states the upgrade is for G4, it upgraded my G3.5 just fine. We all love the new features and functionality, along with more aircraft and more places to test skills. If you want to get into RC flying, this product will save you tons of money by honing your skills before flying so you can avoid so many clostly crashes.
