Enjoyable With Detail
I bought this book on a whim but once started i knew I would finish it. Good character development with enough personal flaws to make it realistic.

Excellent
A real. Page turner with a realistic account of banking business. I always enjoyed reading his novels - once started you cannot put it down.

Well-written Arthur Hailey book....
Since this was written many years ago (over 20 years), some of the situations are not possible today, but the novel is well-written, and keeps you there until the end.I'm sure I read it when it was new, but I liked it again....there are a number of Mr. Hailey's philosophies scattered throughout the novel, and it is pretty easy to see where he is grounded regarding the entire bank system in the country as well as the local bank's responsibilites to the local community. I liked it even though it was somewhat dated.

Well written
Back in the 70's and 80's he was a favorite author of mine, but for some reason I never read this one. Of course slightly dated for this century, it was still a darn good read. Give it a try if you like well built characters and a thoroughly researched storyline.

Very sexist by today's standards
I chose this book by Arthur Hailey because (1) I know the man can write, and (2) he uses the English language correctly. Also, I'm a traditionalist who very much dislikes novels written in the present tense.Although the intricacies of banking don't really interest me, the story was engaging enough that I read the book to the end. I was outraged by the secondary male character's dismissal of one of the female characters as a "whore." If she was a whore, what did that make HIM, this supposedly upright, churchgoing male who was engaged in an adulterous affair because his wife didn't want to fulfill her marital duties? The protagonist, whom we are supposed to like, is also an adulterous male whose wife is mentally ill and in an institution. Why is it considered all right for men to do whatever they want, but unmarried women who engage in sex are considered "whores" and regarded with contempt? In a word, patriarchy. I wish I hadn't wasted my time on this novel and do not plan to buy any others by this author.

A foreshadowing perhaps?
I miss Arthur Haley’s writing. The Moneychangers was one I haven't read but finished in a couple of days. While written many years ago, the characters and scenes could have taken place today. Greed is always a motivating factor that leads many astray. Arthur has a penchant for researching his stories in great detail and this was no exception!

A great book. We need more writers like Hailey today
Interesting characters, great plot. and intrigue make a wonderful book. No cell phone or internet should make the world a more innocent place but greed and evil go back to the cavemen. We lost a master when Arthur Hailey passed away.

Quick and easy
The book is a bit predictable and it gets off in to some rather boring baking stuff but overall not a bad read

Very enjoyabe read
Unbelievable how the plot of this book is still valid and relevant although more than 40 years have past since it was written! Very enjoyable read but like in Arthur Hailey's other books characters are too good or too bad: Maybe this is what we would like to see in real life & maybe this is why his books are so widely read...

Usual High Standard
I like all Arthur Hailey's books and this is right up there in terms of research and merging plotlines. It is a bit dated now but if you like his other books you will like this.

slow start,
slow start, (subject of marginal interest to me) but this author never seems to fail - stick with it and the book gets impossible to put down
