Some great features some not so much
The integrated hard shell is a complete pain. I was curious. I tried. I did not like. If it could be removed, then we are talking a great backpack. Otherwise there is a ridiculous amount of packing space that is unusable. Comfortable. Love the magnetic clips. Good quality. BTW, not sure who I ordered from but the shipping box was destroyed. Fortunately the manufacturer had the bag well insulated. Surprised it arrived intact.Outside open pocket is a great feature.

Well Made/Poorly Designed
The KeySmart Urban21 - Premium Commuter Backpack is well made--great materials and terrific craftsmanship. However, the large hard-shell space at the top is largely useless, prohibits full use of the main pocket, and limits total space given the dimensions of the backpack. Essentially, the backpack is only useful for a laptop and a couple other smaller or narrower items. It is now collecting dust in my closet.

Best Backpack
This is the best backpack I ever had, I strongly recommend. The ONE thing to add for a new version is a side and separate zipper for laptop, to make it easier and faster to get your laptop.

Too expensive.
Drop it to $100 and I’ll take one.

Great bag - but this one flaw will ruin your experience
It’s sad, because there are such great things about this bag but one small detail that I saw in the reviews and that I had decided to ignore now bring me back to reality and made this purchase a bad decision. As you can see from the picture, the front pocket that his supposed to be resistance has a serious flaw in their zipping system. I was extra carefull reading the reviews saying this part was clumsy but after 3 months of use it failed me. I guess there is one benefit buying via Amazon is that you can return it easily even after 30 days. So you can go ahead I guess. I bought from a store in San Jose called B8ta and they would not manage any service request after 30 days. So now I have to manage via the manufacturer. I just think that the high price you pay for it isn’t really worth it until they really fix this part.

Incredibly cheap materials
This backpack is like one person began designing it who knew about bags, and then that person left, and a monkey designed the rest. It’s the definition of duality:*Fridlock attachments where it doesn’t really matter, and cheap no-name (not YKK) zippers everywhere else. Cheap hardware.*Circular stitching for durability in a couple places, but EVERYWHERE ELSE SINGLE STITCHED. Single stitching. In a bag. As you see in other reviews here, things will come apart. Cheaply made.*red high vis lining, but that lining is super cheap and thin, and easily torn (maybe 70D, compared to 250D in competitors). Cheap materials.*No-name nylon material (other companies in this category use name brand fabrics). Cheap materials. It even FEELS cheap*Two main compartments, but the total volume is small, so can’t carry much*Gimmicky features which take the place of actually USEFUL features.Overall, CHEAP materials. POOR design. For what they are charging, you can get a Vanquest, a Maxpedition or similar instead. This is basically built like a $40 Walmart backpack

Well thought out bag in every sense
I always thought it was cool to rock my northface bag to work until I discovered the Urban. I own no rock climbing gear and I always find myself losing stuff in any one of the 100 secret pockets. The Urban is very well thought out, clean and minimally purposeful. The hard shell was designed in a way that doesn't sacrifice the main compartment. I can fit my Lenovo w/14" display, my macbook pro, a binder and a tablet with ease. The hardshell portion at the top is thin yet very solid and can hold my wallet, phone, 2 mouses and keys with plenty of room left. Wish I got this sooner.

Mostly good but poor padding for laptop. I would expect better for the price.
I’m mostly impressed with this backpack. It has lots of features that appear to be well thought out and unique apart from a couple of issues. It arrived in a protective outer sack that should protect it from any transport abrasion. My first impressions are that it’s an interesting design that standouts against the boring designs that other bags can be, but at the same time the design isn’t over the top and doesn’t compromise its functionality.Build quality is fantastic. All seams are neat and straight, all stress points are well reinforced and a lot of the seams/structure is hidden, giving the bag a clean look. The padding on the straps is very good and covered in a soft material. It should be comfortable, but as there is no mesh or venting these could cause you to have sweat spots, I’m not sure what material it is underneath or how breathable it is. On both straps is provision to mount lights, a radio or other items, these mount points rest on top and slightly forward on the shoulder. There is no adjustment to the top of the straps. The back of the bag has a mesh kind of padding so should be fairly breathable but not as breathable as a suspended mesh since this just won’t allow that kind of airflow. The lower part of the mesh/padding doubles as a suitcase loop so you can securely place it over your trolley handle. The top part forms a secret zipped pocket. The zip sits nicely under the padding and shouldn’t cause issues with it digging into your back.Inside:Laptop section:For any decently thick laptop, this is all well padded however there is nothing holding the laptop down in its compartment, nor is there any padding at the top of the bag so should you drop the bag upside down, this could result in damage to your laptop. If you have a very thin laptop, then unfortunately there are gaps, especially at the bottom of the bag where the laptop could work itself into where there is no padding. Again, if you drop the bag with the laptop having worked itself into the gap, this may result in damage to your laptop. In practice this may not be a problem, however the whole point of this bag is to protect your equipment and this design flaw does not fill me with complete confidence - I have a very expensive, very thin MacBook Pro and I would be wary with this in the bag. The tag also says there is “extra corner protection” but I can’t say I felt any extra protection beyond that which is on the sides. At the top of the laptop section is a hole which could be used for a water pouch or to pass a USB lead out from a power bank to charge your phone. It might have been better for this to be to one side, or have two holes so it doesn’t come out behind your neck. Just above this is a small, adjustable, strap and clasp for miscellaneous use.Moving inwards is a section that could be used for a tablet or other similarly flat items. It goes all the way to the bottom of the bag. The section divider is slightly padded and this would provide a small amount of padding against a drop on the floor but again, really not a lot of protection. At the top of this is a velcro loop, but this is not for securing an item in the “tablet” section. The main section is an ok size, but due to the other sections of course, you’re not left with a huge amount of space. You could just about fit a change of clothes in it. The protective shell part of the bag eats into this space. There is more space at the bottom of the bag than at the top, so if you have the bag jam packed and you need to get something from the bottom then that might prove pretty difficult. Just under the protective shell is a smallish pouch and a sort of mini key carabiner/clip. Lastly, there is a hole that allows wires to come out of the protective shell, into this main compartment, or vice versa. I could see potential for putting a powerbank in the pouch and running the cable into the protective shell. I wouldn’t run a cable from the shell out of the back of the bag because that’s going to get in the way and the shell is part of the front part of the bag which can flap out and away from the back of the bag. Around the main section is a substantial zip that should last. There is no water resistant seal but there is a good flap that should provide protection from water ingress. The protective shell isn’t completely hard, it will deform with a bit of pressure. It could be a good place for glasses and devices, but don’t expect it to protect them from multiple bags put on top, or sitting on the bag. It’s an interesting section which is good for all your little bits and bobs. It is “RFID blocking” although what section or if indeed the whole shell is RFID blocking I don’t know. There is also apparently a place for your KeySmart keys, but again this is not exactly clear exactly which section is for them. You can of course use whichever section you want. Towards the back of the shell is a large flap which is padded. Within this flap is a small pouch that could be for your keys in a KeySmart. There is also a small loop at the top of this flap that you could attach something to. Outside this flap are two half width pouches, then another two 1:3 split pouches. Then there is the rest of the protective shell for loose items. This whole section has a zip with water resistant seals and two zippers.Kind of outside the bag is a large flap for quick access items such as a newspaper or magazine. There is a dedicated slot for a Tile tracker which I expect would stay there but there is nothing to secure it in place plus this whole flap is completely open so it’s not really the best place you could put it, not to mention that I thief would find it easy to remove a Tile that is there. Not a good design decision. There is a zip down the front of this section which again has water resistant seals. This section is quite wide and tall but not very thick. On each side of the bag are two quite decent size bottom holders and above these are a couple of quick release straps.Overall it’s a very well made with lots of features and looks good. One thing I feel lacking is closeable or zipped sections within the bag. There’s nothing to keep anything in place if you turn the bag upside down. It’s a shame about the potentially poor padding at the bottom to protect your laptop and the decision on where to put the Tile slot is stupid in my opinion. On the plus side, you could add your own padding and of course you can put the Tile where you want.

Smart backpack!
I was in need of a new backpack for work and when I saw this thought it would be perfect for my needs.Firstly the bag comes in a red dust bag which is a nice touch - out of the dust bag the backpack has the look and feel of a quality product. Its made of water-resistant nylon which is dark grey and black with red accents. Overall the look and feel is that akin to premium bags.Functionality wise it's fantastic and takes a bit of exploring to find out exactly what's on offer! The top front of the backpack is a hardcase perfect for those more delicate items (inside there there's also a pocket for the Keysmart key holder and an RFID blocker pocket). It took me about ten minutes to fully get to grips with the bag. It's got pockets and gadgets everywhere! The secret pockets are super secret, perfect for passports and other important items. The zips are solid and the pull loops are nicely coated in a plastic/rubber material. The magnetic Fidlock claps are great and much more welcome than the standard buckles you get on a backpack.Stitching is top shelf, no loose strands and Parsfinity stitching in the key areas should mean this backpack lasts a lifetime. The straps are padded although not overly so, enough for comfort. The backpad is made out of 'Hexbreathe' which helps to circulate air when wearing the backpack and so far I've found it cool to wear - the backpad also has a suitcase pass through incorporated into it so it will sit on the top of your suitcase without falling off.Fits my Lenovo Thinkpad in without issue and protects it will with the incorporated laptop pocket. It's a great backpack, it isn't massive but perfect for work you'll be able to carry all your essentials. It's of a premium build and should last a long time, the only issue I have is the cost - £189.99 is expensive for a backpack. My most recent backpack cost £120 and is of comparable quality so I think it would benefit from being slightly cheaper. 4 stars only due to the high price.Overall highly reccomended.
