Quality and a Bargain
For a long, long time I was eyeballing the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner, but I was having a hard time reconciling spending thirty dollars when there are many other salad spinners that are less expensive. I am usually quite pleased with OXO products. But I came across this and decided I might like it better because it has a crank handle, rather than the push button the OXO has. When I bought this, I was having problems with aches in my forearms, and I thought the crank might be a little easier on my muscles.I am far from disappointed. I love this baby! The crank is very easy to work. There are feet on the bottom that keep the spinner firmly planted on the counter while I spin my greens, but those feet don't get stuck to the counter or leave any marks. I'm not sure how many RPM's this will reach, but it will go pretty darn fast. Water passes through the slits in the inner container to the outer container. I can do a head of romaine in about two minutes, without rushing, and most of the water I washed it in comes off. It's big enough to spin a lot of greens at a time, too.You can also dress your salad with it, by spinning your salad s-l-o-w-l-y, and pouring salad dressing through the pouring hole in the lid. When I finish, I hand wash and dry it, and reassemble it. After over a year of regular use, it looks and operates like new! This is one of the best kitchen items I've ever bought, anywhere.

Update June 2014 - Much better than our old salad spinner
This salad spinner may be a bit flimsy, but it is so easy to use and does such a good job compared to our old one. It takes very little work to spin and the lettuce or other greens come out surprisingly "dry". We sometimes forget to latch the top because our old one did not require this and if you hold it down, it still works fine. UPDATE June 2014 - We have found that we have to hold the top down, even with the latches attached. You will have to experiment to see exactly where to push down on the top in order to get the spinner to engage properly. Still works great after a year and we would buy again.

Is it right to love a salad spinner this much?
I eat salad every day, and when my old faithful broke down, I wasn't sure how to replace it. I counted on Amazon (as I normally do) and its reviews. I came across this little contraption. The reviews, or at least the ones that I read, do not even do it justice. First, it works. It dries your lettuce. Second, it's quick and effective, dishwasher safe, and doubles as the salad plate. Yeah, that's cool. There is, however, many fantastic things about this spinner. There is a "hole" in the top. It does not affect the ability to dry my greens, but I can distribute dressing through the hole, and then spin again and offer perfect and equal distribution. Wowza!! Wait, another surprise. There is an actual strainer in the top too! Meaning, that I can (1) strain water out, let more water in, re-spin, drain again, and repeat; no removing and replacing the top again and again; and (2) I can put a dressing in, spin, distribute, drain, re-dress, re-distribute, re-drain... I think you get it. Final thoughts? Well, this spinner has a lot to offer! You won't be disappointed. Happy salad tossing!!!

Ordered large, received a mini from Deals by TNT
After spending way too much time comparing salad spinners, measuring and deciding which one fit my needs the best (large) and would be easy to use, as well as reliable, I ordered this salad spinner from Fulfillment by Amazon, seller Deals by TNT.I was aware that someone had asked in the questions section for this product if others were getting the large or the mini when they ordered because twice they had received the mini when they ordered the large. In the answers, one said they'd received the mini while others said they did get the large. Since that had been more than 6 months ago, I hoped the issue was resolved. It was not. I received an invoice that confirmed I'd ordered the large, and the sticker put on the spinner box said it was the large, but inside the taped box was the mini with instructions for the mini.Although Deals by TNT is the prominent Fulfillment by Amazon seller for this spinner, if you really need the large one, consider buying from another FBA seller (there are a number to choose from).

Great Spinner, Wears Out
I love this spinner for function. You can get good radial velocity and it dries lettuce and other products well. After about a year (we only use it about once a week) the teeth on the spin plate under the cover would not engage the slots in the spin basket. It just slipped. Inspection showed the pointed contact tip in the bowl had worn down causing the spinner basket to sit lower and cause the teeth not to engage. My fix was to put a large flat washer over the pointed tip which raised the basket enough for the teeth to engage the slots in the basket. We will see how long this works. Still a good product but I give it only a three. The tip could hve a teflon or lower friction material on it to minimize wear.

produces plastic shreds
I have purchased 3 salad spinners from Amazon thus far, and this one is close to perfect - if it weren't for plastic shreds that develop when turning the handle.Maybe I have a bad unit, but when closed and locked the basket grinds against the lid, actually carving grooves into the lid and shredding the basket rim (see pictures). The result is that after every use I have to carefully check the salad and remove these plastic shreds (most of which accumulate on the basket rim). I am not an engineer, but it appears that the basket is too tall and thus leaves no gap between its spinning rim and the stationary lid, causing the two units to rub together.Update Jan 2013: The company that sells these salad spinners has not yet replied to my product evaluation and concerns about the plastic particles; does this mean that the shredding is a known defect?
