Can this card reader handle a 64GB SDHC card?

How far out does a micro sd card stick when plugged into this? can a micro sd be left in and transported without breaking the chip?

It sticks out the perfect distance to snap micro SD cards and lose all your data. Requires almost no force to do so. Very unsafe to leave the card in or transport.

With so many reviewers stating that this reader does NOT work on a MacBook Pro, why does Transcend state that it does, according to their website?

Works great on my 15" MacBook Pro Retina Display with OS X 10.9.4. Not sure why it wouldn't work with any reasonably recent version of OS X as it is just a USB 3.0 device.

Does this work plug and play with Windows 8? I'm seeing a few other USB 3.0 card readers with 1 or 2 reviews stating no.

It depends. The reader itself and recovery download will be compatible with Windows 8. It's not the Operating System (Windows 8). It is also in the reader port. A lot of USBs are 2.0 now and some 3.0. This exact device says it is backwards compatible with 2.0, but also for 3.0. Check the design and see what version of USB port your computer has
