Q: How does the orange bar tilt the table?

Hello, the whole table does not tilt. The table top comprises 3 panels. Only the front panel tilts upward 90 degrees. This allows it to hold vertically by pressing down. The other 2 panels can be shifted and need to be shifted to allow the front panel to lift. Note that the assembly instructions are terrible. Very small print, poor verbage. No distinctions between the 3 block pairs and where they go. Also, on mine, the belt that allows the 2 handles to turn together had slipped off one handle and getting the 2 handles lined up again was a challenge. So, be prepared to do some heady figuring if you buy this and are assembling alone. Once assembled, it's a good device. Tony

Q: How easy would it be to replace the bamboo top with oak plywood or mdf

here is a YouTuber that deals with this specific issue. His name is the WorkMate Guy. The thing that you need to know is that you need a 20mm for the dogs. Anything more and they don’t fit properly. The other helpful info from those that have done it is that you can make the boards wider if your clamps need more room for the side but you generally don’t want to make the wood thicker because it will affect the full use of the tool. But as with anything… make sure you don’t make it too heavy for yourself for moving when replacing the boards as it is a portable workbench after all.

Q: can you mount the X bench down draft table 3100-05 to this?

The Skil X bench downdraft table is shown at https://www.amazon.com/SKIL-3100-05-X-Bench-Downdraft-Accessory/dp/B0014TILV6/ . I don't think this would work because the vacuum hose connects through the bottom of the downdraft table and mounts into a specific hole in a Skil work table.
