Good quality, works well and looks good.
My unit came in perfect condition and well packed. It's a simple design but works well. My original vent cover was a cheap plastic louver that was screwed to the wall using masonry screws. Because of that I had to chisel around the exhaust pipe to fit this around the pipe. I had to use a mallet to get the cap seated and it stood up to the pounding with out any noticable damage. After I got it snugged up I was able to screw it flat to wall and seal the edges with silicone caulk. The end product works well, looks good and prevents back drafts. It was a little difficult to install because I was replacing a different style of cap. I suspect if you already have something similar this would be a quick job.

Perfect for us and great value!
Very happy with this wall cap. We installed a vent pipe as part of our kitchen remodel. This part of the installation was very easy. Despite what other reviews said in the past, I found no construction or quality issues with this item. The spring is tight but the damper opens easily. The screen at the end is removable, and although it will not prevent insects from taking residence, it should provide an adequate deterrent to other kinds of pests. My only slight caveat is that I would have liked to have had some additional instructions for installation. We put this over our vinyl siding rather than under as the outer flange is the same size as the lap, and the hole position was non-negotiable due to structural obstacles interior to the wall. We would have had the bottom edge sticking out if we had put it under the siding, so we put it on top. I screwed 2 screws in it and caulked the heck out of the outer edge. I *think* we should be fine--- but it would have been nice to see some additional guidelines/suggestions in the box.

Good product, just as advertised.
The cap arrived in excellent shape. The spring loaded damper closes flat against the gasket. No modifications required. The bird (bug) screen is 1/4" hardware cloth and should keep out most critters and it was installed securely and should not fall out. The collar is short, about 1.25", but I knew I would have to be attached it to a piece of duct to extend it through the wall. The collar fit over the crimped end of the duct with some persuasion, typical of most ductwork. The cap material is fairly light gage but should hold up fine without abuse.

Screen is a must in my opinion, which this unit has
This unit replace my plastic piece of x. The old one broke and we almost had bird problems in our duct. I had it professionally installed, so I cannot speak to installation. The screen that covers the opening and the spring loaded flap are the main reason I purchased this wall cap. It is much quieter than my old plastic one. It works well, but as others have said, the rubber seals don't allow the flap to fully close. It is such a small gap that I cannot complain too much. I just spray it with bug spray and bee spray to help keep out any unwanted tiny creatures.

Excellant quality, easy to install, competitive price point
We have a cooking stove exhaust vent blower that has a top speed of 750 cfm. We were going for a vent cover that could handle the exhaust and keep out unwanted pests. This was a very satisfactory solution. Easy to install. Well made, sturdy, a thicker grade aluminum, with a screen to keep critters out and a gravity flap that's closed when not in use.

Well made and fit the bill
A different range hood vent was previously purchased, but the rear connector was too long. This model has a a very small female connector and only required the connector sheet metal to be crimped. The hood is well constructed and looks nice.

good quality
relatively easy to install except I was 30 feet up a ladder on the side of an attic wall . It has a projection of about an inch of the 6 inch pipe that goes into the wall . Pretty heavy gauge aluminum with a spring loaded damper and a removable piece of hardware screen to deter the critters from trying to get in . God Broan quality

Disappointing design and quality, but can be made to work.
I have used this before, and am aware of the shortcomings, but I wanted a matching vent for a new bathroom fan installation. As others have noted, the flap doesn't fit well. Whenever you see a product with a weatherstrip, but the manufacturer didn't take care that the parts actually touch the weatherstrip, it kind of makes you scratch your head and ask, "what the heck were they thinking?" As it happens, a little massaging (bending) of the door made the fit better. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be perfect. The bird screen snaps into place and, isn't well retained. A couple of well placed sheet metal screws retain it a lot better. You can use the same sheet metal screws you use to connect the duct sections. A bigger problem is that the collar where the duct attaches is too short. The Zephyr AK00042 has a much better collar length. With this one, if the wall is too thick, attach a 6"-12" long piece of duct to the cap with duct screws before putting cap in place from outside. You shouldn't use screws if you are using this for dryer vent (screws protruding into the duct collect lint and eventually clog the duct), so if you're using this for dryer vent and the collar is too short in your application, use a different cap like the Zephyr. It's annoying that you have to worry about all this. The positives are that this cap is aluminum, not plastic that may deteriorate in outdoor application, and it's made in the USA. I cleaned, primed and painted mine (Rustoleum primer and paint) before installing to avoid a big silver-looking eyesore.

Made of metal should last longer than the previous plastic one

Overall, I like this wall cap but there are some improvements I'd suggest to do. Pros: 1) It has an adequate opening for 6'' inch duct unlike some other caps on the market. What's the point of having 6'' to restrict it with 4'' at the end? :) This is the main reason why I decided to go with this cap 2) It's made of an aluminum so it wouldn't rust 3) The damper seems to work well. It still opens when there extremely strong wing but I'd say it does the job. Also, it has a cushion at the bottom so you don't hear it closes - no metal on metal sound. Cons - they're not major but still: 1) When you run your fan on higher CFMs (> 600 ), the damper starts to hit the upper part of the damper. I had to install a weather strip (see the photo) so it wouldn't constantly smash the cap. The fix works well. Having said that, one is not supposed to run >400 cfm on 6'' duct :) 2) The damper is attached with two small plastic caps (see photo, black round caps). Those caps sometimes squick when the damper is opened or closed. I applied silicon lubricant and it fixed the issue for now. For such a price it would be nice to have ball bearnings to avoid any noise. 3) The damper door spring also squicks sometimes. I also lubricated it but maybe it gets lubricated with all the grease overtime :) 4) Aluminum is not thin but it's not as heavy-duty. Be careful when attaching this fan - you can bend the cap. For instance, be careful when you drive in screws. It will bend if you drop it. 5) Base plate came scratched. Probably because it didn't have a protective film unlike the cap. You can see it in the photos. 6) Price. I feel this item is a bit overpriced but I bit the bullet because it was the only cap that had a non-restrictive opening unlike other caps on the market. Overall, I'd say it's a good product but there are small improvements to be made. It's pricy but it's better to overpay than have a less performant product.

It looks 100% better than anything plastic. It has a wire bird screen and the gentle spring allows it to open when the kitchen exhaust is on low, but has enough strength to keep it closed even during windy periods.

Très bonne construction
