Great product, poor images
I purchased this axe a few weeks ago, and was pretty excited for it. However, the pictures presented on the listing and the item itself do not match up. The blade shape wasn’t quite the same, with the axe I got having almost no distance between handle and where the beard starts. I use my axes at a living history museum, and I did think I was getting something closer to the historical examples I’ve seen. Because of where I use them, I also don’t love company branding. The image on this item showed that it said “USA” on the head, but the one I received had a Gritr company logo on it, which was less than desirable. And I’m not usually a stickler for things like this, but the imaging did show the axe having a shiny edge, but mine had the same finish on the edge as the rest of the axe head… Not a big deal, but it’s definitely not cool.I thought about returning it, but I didn’t feel like paying to ship it back to them. So I kept it and used it. The reason this item gets three stars despite not being like the picture of what I thought I ordered is because it is great as a tool. If you don’t care about what it looks like, then it’s a great axe with a lot of power for how small it is.

Stop axeing questions- this is The One.
The axe I’ve wanted since 1989. Finally came across this axe at NE Base Camp- Camp Sayre during an event and found the camp/ trail axe of my dreams. Perfect balance of weight, size, and handiness.

DO NOT BUY, 0 STARS IF I COULD
Absolutely horrible quality, is this a joke? That was my first impression out of the box.The handle is badly cracked at the wedge/head in multiple spots, additionally the handle is also missing a very large split out of the bottom where you place your hand!!!!The head itself is extremely roughly finished - poor edge, large dings, heavy grit grind left behind, raw casting with zero finish work done. This is absolutely garbage craftsmanship, no exaggeration here.If I was Council tool id be extremely ashamed to call this American made. This axe should have never made it beyond a quality control inspection, if there even is one....I wasn't expecting a Ferrari for the price (I own several high end axes) but this is below home depot quality; unacceptable even for a cheap $60 axe.It is clear that this axe is made with the most bare minimum attempt/effort invested.I will never buy a Council tool axe again; PASS.

Excellent
Council got it right with the Sport Utility version. No more aluminum wedge. Head is seated nicely on a very good handle. Very happy with purchase.

The axe pictured is not what you recieve.
The axe I received is not what was pictured. What is pictured is a classic Hudson bay axe. What I received is a council tool, revised version of a Hudson bay axe. Shorter and more stout bit. I talked with folks at council tool and they explained that they had to change the design because...Basically the bit to handle ratio was favorable to handle breakages. Too much cutting surface and too little handle. The axe I received is well made, but I wouldn't of ordered it if I had known it was different than described.
