Love Story
What is it about Karen Kingsbury’s Baxter family that draws me in again and again? When John Baxter is asked to relive his love story with Elizabeth for his grandson Cole’s heritage project, he’s not sure he can do it. But over a few weeks, he tells Cole everything. If you’ve read all the Baxter books, particularly the Redemption series, this part of the book will be familiar to you. There were parts of this look back that read like a repeat of previous books (perhaps more so for me since I recently re-read the entire series) and other parts that were new and fresh because of new details included this time around. Even though some of this was familiar to me, I enjoyed this deeper look back at John and Elizabeth’s courtship. It's where this family got its start and sometimes it's good to reminisce.Cody Coleman is working through the breakup of his complicated relationship with Andi Ellison. Can Cody and Andi work through what is keeping them apart? I enjoyed this part of the book though their story ended a bit quickly for my tastes. I needed there to be one more conversation between the two prior to the ending of the book. I can’t tell you how their story ended because that would be a spoiler :) But I can say that I'm eager for what comes next for the couple. To answer the question I began this review with … What draws me to the Baxter family? It’s the emotion and that these characters feel like real people to me. But unlike the other books, this one didn’t make me CRY, though I did get a bit teary eyed over a puppy. I’m not sure why this book didn’t grab me like previous books?Love Story does have brief updates about the rest of the Baxters and Flanigans but there isn’t much here with the whole family. The focus of this novel are John and Elizabeth (let's call it a prequel to the Baxter series), and Cody and Andi. Haven’t read any of the Baxter books? You can jump in right here without feeling lost. Not only does Karen do a good job of giving you some details without a complete rehash of the story, but the book begins with an introduction to the family … Who is who, how old they are, who their kids are etc.I’ll wrap things up with this moment between Ashley and Landon. It’s the moment from the book that I’ve been thinking about long after finishing it. They are talking after finding an old pitcher that Elizabeth had glued back together after it was broken and Ashley says ... "She told us the repaired pitcher was an illustration of God’s grace. The way he saw us. We would have broken times in life. Times when we threw a ball where we shouldn’t and the next thing you knew something very precious was lying on the ground in pieces. She told us God would always put the pieces back together if we were willing. The end result might not look exactly as it did before, but it would be beautiful all the same. Beautifully broken. That’s what she called it."I love Kingsbury and I always will. Was this one of her best Baxter books? For me, no. But that won’t stop me from anxiously awaiting the next update on the Baxters (November 2017). They feel like real people, real friends and I need to know what they’re up to.I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.

Love, Family, Friendship, and God Come Together in this Beautiful Story!
As I've started studying the Bible and becoming more interested in learning what it has to say, I also wanted to explore the religious fiction genre. I had heard of Karen Kingsbury but never read anything so I looked for a good title to start with. Love Story just came out and I am always a fan of a good love story so I figured this would be the perfect place for me to start!Love Story is part of Karen Kingsbury's Baxter Family series but you don't have to read the other Baxter family books to follow this one. I haven't yet read them and I was mostly able to follow the family stories. The beginning of the book offers an introduction to all of the characters which is great if you aren't familiar with the family. Love Story follows multiple love stories and all tie into the Baxters. Cole Blake is a high school student who is doing a school project on his family history. He asks his mother, Ashley (nee Baxter) to accompany him when he asks his grandfather, John Baxter, to share his love story. Over the next four weeks, Cole and Ashley sit and listen to John as he reveals the beginning of his love story and the power of love, family, and friendship. The entire family ends up learning about how their family started as well as more about themselves.Though a good part of Love Story focuses directly on John and his first wife, Elizabeth's, story, there are other love stories weaved in. We hear about Cody Coleman and Andi Ellison as well as Bailey and Brandon Paul. Everyone knows the Baxters in some way and it's beautiful to see how their stories are tied together.I finished this book last night and loved it! I enjoyed the love stories, along with all of the emotions the characters experience. If a book is well-written, I often feel what the characters feel and I definitely felt them while reading this book. I felt the love, sadness, joy, and heartache because Karen Kingsbury wrote this book so well! I even cried toward the end because I loved it that much. Perhaps one of the things I enjoyed the most was seeing how all of the characters talk to God, pray, asking Him for guidance, and read the Bible. Some of the characters even turn their lives around because of the presence of God and signs He shows them and that made me enjoy this book even more.Love Story was my first Karen Kingsbury book and I'm already reading another one! You definitely don't have to have read the other Baxter family books to read this one because an overview of the characters helps you get to know them. Still, I will be reading more of her books and am looking forward to the second book in this series! I highly recommend reading this book if you enjoy love stories where the characters are religious and talk to God daily!

Couldn’t put it down!
As always, this book had me in tears in public reading it, as all Karen’s books usually do. The Love story of John and Elizabeth was just beautiful, as was Cody and Andy’s story woven throughout the book. It’s always like meeting old family when I read about the Baxters, I have missed them so much and this did not disappoint!!

A beautiful story
Another easy to read Karen Kingsbury novel - I've read most of the Baxter Family novels so enjoyed this prequel that also tied up some loose ends of other characters. I read this over a weekend - something I rarely do with an e-book!

Good read
I'm glad I read this after all the others otherwise it would have spoiled the endings of the other books in the Baxter series
