Beautiful but suggestions for affordable yarn alternatives would help
I've just received this book and it's gorgeous! I'm a huge fan of online tutorials but these patterns definitely cannot all be found for free online- the book is well worth it! I've recently gotten into arm knitting for home decor items so I skipped past the wearables for the time being. I do agree with one reviewer that it would be more useful to have the "how to" at the beginning, but it's easy enough to flip to it first for an overview, I suppose.I deducted a star for the extremely expensive nature of the projects as laid-out by the author. I understand that she can't control the cost of wool or jumbo yarns, HOWEVER, I really would have loved to see some alternative yarns listed. The pouf, for example, calls for two skeins of yarn that costs $125/skein. I think it's safe to say that not many readers can afford that! All of the yarns listed are merino, alpaca, etc... incredibly expensive and the sticker shock is painful, to say the least, when you go try to find the yarns for sale.An index at the end listing both wool options (expensive!) and synthetic or blend yarns of the different weights called for would be wonderful. I saw in the back that Purl Soho donated all of the yarn used for the projects. For anyone not familiar with their (admittedly beautiful) blog and shop, it is not a place to bargain hunt for fibers. That said, their fiber selections are exquisite quality, so if you want to make a one-of-a-kind, heirloom piece, then use the recommended yarns.Anyway...All that said, be resourceful folks! Not just in finding alternatives, but in finding deals online. I just bought ten skeins of Lion Brand WOW yarn for a rug I want to make for $9 each (regular retail is $21!) and got free shipping. If you really love merino roving, scour Etsy and be willing to take a chance on a newer shop. Many times they'll sell their jumbo roving for less to get some early sales and reviews. I just ordered 5 lbs of gorgeous merino roving yarn from a new shop for less than $100 shipped to my door. You really need to look for the deals. And, of course, there are the big brand ones we've all seen used in online tutorials like premier couture jazz and pattons cobbles. Collect those coupons and shop around! If you haven't already, bookmark the Yarnsub website! Then go there to find pretty much every brand and type of yarn ever created and alternatives, not just listed, but compared on texture, weight, fiber content, warmth, drape, etc.Moral of the story: I think it's a shame that the author didn't make the projects more accessible by acknowledging that not all readers are either in the US or wealthy. But with a little bit of resourcefulness, we thriftier makers can figure out substitutions and make our own gorgeous versions of the projects in the book!

with an abundance of lovely and happy photos, tons of great explanations and information
The thing that struck me initially about this book is the big-heartedness with which it was written. It's a generous size, with an abundance of lovely and happy photos, tons of great explanations and information, and a terrific variety of projects. Obviously so much love went into the making of it. As an inveterate knitter with needles, I'm excited for the liberation of using just my arms and fingers and have in mind several kids who will love and benefit from learning how to do this, especially as they are intimidated by needles at this point in their lives. It looks like the thoroughness of the book will provide me with any answers I may need as well as encouragement and support. Can't wait to make the rope rug. And linen baskets. And cabled throw. And booties and crowns . . . May I please just drop everything else I have to do?

The instructions were clear and easy to follow
I am a new to knitting and tend to get frustrated with my knitting projects. However, I couldn't resist the gorgeously made and photographed pieces in this book! I ended up making the faux lambskin rug for my son's nursery and the process was fairly quick (yay for arm knitting!) and painless. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Would make a beautiful gift for a crafter!

I love the idea of this and have arm-knitted a great quilt. The instructions could probably be a little bit clearer, and most of the projects in the book are just things that I would never want to make.

Fun and easy to understand
Bought this for my mother in law. She was off to the races in no time finger-knitting baby shoes while we sat around over the holidays. Some of the projects require basic sewing skills FYI.

The book has many great projects that I'm anxious to try but I find myself looking up information on the instructions given. Unless you are familiar with the "knitting world" which I'm not, the projects will be challenging. I also wish the instructional pictures were more clear. All in all it wasn't an expensive book and one day I may be ready to plunge in.

Multi-use knitting projects
Gave this as a Christmas gift but chose this book because it had some clothing fashion projects and mostly home fashion projects. My son-in-law is very good at knitting; he says it relieves stress.
