Wanted A Barrel To Catch Washer Water For Garden.
Setup and installation of spigot was easy. The holes in the plastic mesh on top do not line up with the holes, so it arrived with puckers in the mesh which I did not like because I was afraid my baby outdoor lizards would get in, fall in the water, and die. I had to use Gorilla tape to seal the edges which will not last long in Summer heat, needing to be constantly replaced. ALSO, the hole for the spigot is big, but the water that moves through the brass spigot mechanism only allows ¼” of water through at a time, so the barrel quickly filled from my washing machine and overflowed watering the sidewalk and street instead of my garden. Before deciding upon sending it back, I removed the spigot, losing a lot of water in the process, and inserted the back end of the hose into the spigot hole. It worked! Water flowed freely from the end of the hose into my garden. I never need to turn off the water, so the spigot is unnecessary. I will keep the barrel and continue to use it this way. I hate paying for washing machine water that just goes down the drain, and I only use a scant scoop of OxiClean and overnight soak instead of soap which does not bother my plants, so this way I get twice the use of my water. Not particularly sturdy on the bottom, could be better. Will keep it and enjoy it while it lasts, hopefully for a long time. Haven’t had it a month yet, so we’ll see how it does.

Leaks as predicted
Every plastic barrel I look for I see LEAKS. Naturally, I figured I'd get one without a leaking spigot. "High quality brass spigot." Brass maybe Very low flow, and it leaks where it is screwed into the barrel. I followed the installation instructions carefully. Wrapped the threads with teflon tape. Screwed it in carefully to assure no cross threading (the barrel part of the connection is plastic.) Finshed, put water in. Bleep......bleep.....bleep etc. Took it out, rewrapped with my own teflon tape. Bleep......bleep.....bleep etc.My next plan is to try some plumbers' sealant on the threads. Then maybe waterproof glue.Quality. An ancient concept, I guess.

As advertised, seemingly good quality and at a good price.
I'll start with 5 stars. Will update next season. We have an unhappy reviewer stating poor quality simply based on the overflow nipple. Seriously?Another reviewer is unhappy because he left it outside in the "prolonged" winter and the bottom cracked. Since he had it for like a year and a half, he is upset because the warranty of 30 days was not extended to cover his loss. Did he leave water in it to freeze and expand? The barrel is plastic. Empty it in the fall if you have cold winters. Put it in a protected area. A garage or a shed. Toss it in your basement. It only weighs 22 pounds. If you leave it outside, cover it to keep out rain water and stop the UV light from deteriorating the plastic and bleaching the color. Take some responsibility! This barrel cannot be used with the automatic type of rainwater collection pipe. http://www.amazon.com/Oatey-14209-Mystic-Rainwater-Collection/dp/B003E1RJVU/ref=pd_sim_lg_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1H1E3FKQW4CYZWWPS2SCThis must be used by simply pointing your existing downspout into the top of the barrel. So yes, overflow will exit the cutout on the top front of the barrel spilling down the front. Connect a hose to it.There are also 2 additional connection nipples located near the top towards the back. They are capped with rubber caps. Remove the caps, secure a piece of hose to each nipple and point the hose away from the structure.I don't really understand, hopefully someone will explain, the huge price differential with the same products sold by the same sellers on this site.I purchased my barrel a couple of weeks ago. The price was 67 bucks and there was a coupon for 8 bucks. No shipping charge. So my cost was 59 bucks. Today I see this barrel priced at 87 with 2 bucks for shipping. Are the lower prices simply sale prices or is there some other more devious plan going on here.If you can get this barrel at the lower price, go for it. For 90 bucks, a better barrel can be found.
