Michigan Peat 5540 Garden Magic Top Soil, 40-Pound (4-(Pack))

Great top soil. One bag came with a surprise. A few years ago, I found a toad in one bag of topsoil. It stayed in our yard for a few years, haven't seen it lately. But its replacement came with one of these Michigan Peat bags. As I was topping off my keyhole garden, I dumped another bag of topsoil and something leapt out. It jumped to the edge of the garden and looked back at me--it was a Carolina anole (an American chameleon). Saw it a couple of other times over the next week, so maybe it has taken up residence. I can't guarantee that you'll get such a surprise, though. But back to the topsoil--plants are just having a field day. Getting some great growth!

I am very happy with this top soil. I had read some reviews that said it had too many twigs in it, but I did not find this to be the case. On the other hand, after reading other reviews, I was disappointed that I did not get a garden toad in my bag.

As a disabled senior, it's difficult for me to get top soil at a store & home... This product not only was convenient, it is of excellent quality & I plan to buy more!

NOT REALLY 40 Pounds. Good but OVERPRICED. I ordered (7) bags of this topsoil. It all arrived safely & is good quality. A lot of the "40 pounds" is moisture weight. In other words you are getting about 20 pounds of water. Obviously you are going to water your lawn or garden after spreading this topsoil. I'm sure a large portion of the price is to offset shipping costs. I am giving (4) stars for a quality product as anticipated but it should technically cost about 50% less. I found a similar topsoil locally for $7.00 a bag. It too was somewhat moist & in the exact same size bag but not advertised as 40 pounds.

Used this soil to fill small patches in my lawn and plant new shrubs. The soil worked as expected in the patches and allowed grass seeds to germinate in areas that were previously difficult. I also had an area where we couldn't get shrubs to thrive. I mixed this top soil with the Michigan Peat 5240 Garden Magic Compost and Manure and so far the new shrubs have already lasted longer than the ones they replaced. The soil was pricey, but the convenience of having it quickly delivered and the quality of the soil made the purchase well worth it for me.

The Michigan Peat topsoil that I received is good quality. It is clean fill without any garbage in it (unlike the last bag of topsoil I bought from the hardware store, which was full of little pieces of metal and construction debris). There are almost no clots or clumps in the bag I received. It is ridiculously expensive to get something this heavy delivered but if you only need a small quantity and need to make sure it's good stuff, this will work.

This is the first Top Soil I ever purchased. I only just discovered gardening. So I was surprised to find Top Soil at Lowe's for just $1.97. Then I got out my flat and filled it with the cheap soil. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! The cheap one is heavy with twigs. I can still use it for any deep garden I begin, but certainly not for potting soil.

Plastic sack arrived taped shut and bag did not seem as heavy as the other one I ordered. Incidentally, cardboard box was fine outside.
