unsatisfied customer
A few months ago, I purchased a Brunton digital compass, the Nomad V2 Pro model.I was busy and didn't attempt to use it for appoximately 6 weeks. I couldn't seem to get the delination set into the unit. I read and reread the directions; trying repeatedly to set the thing. I Finally called the Brunton company twice. Each time the receptionist refered me to the techincal dept. They aren't there and they don't return telephone calls. So, if you buy one and need help, don't be surprised if they aren't there to help. My digital compass is now in the trash can and I will never buy from that company again! BUYER BEWARE!!!!

disappointment
This was a Christmas gift for my Daughter. She requested it because she does a lot of hiking and needs to be aware of her elevation and exact location. This has a lot of extra bells and whistles which are not necessary for her but the size and price were right. When she opened it and tried to use it for the first time it didn't work at all.The battery must be dead. Now she has to spend her time and money replacing it.Gifts that don't work are not any fun. What a disappointment.

Great for hikers
Multifunction instrument, directions exceedingly obscure. Haven't yet figured out how to set the compass. Altimeter most easily set to known starting altitude.

Excellent choice
The NomadV2 Pro meets all of my expectations. I dropped my last barometer and needed another one. After looking on line I found that I could replace it for about the same cost as a stand alone barometer and have added benefits to go with it. I like being able to adjust the barometric pressure and the altitude. I like having the 24 hour record of each and being able to review what has happened in the past. I really like the graph for the barometer. It easy to see how fast the pressure is changing. This can't be done on a regular barometer and I like to see how fast the pressure is changing. Brunton makes excellent instruments and you cannot go wrong by buying one of their products. They are very reliable and will last a long time.

SEEMS LIKE FALSE ADVERTISING TO ME
I bought this for the altimeter feature that claims "an altimeter resolution of 1 foot". I can tell you this is flat out wrong. The device can't tell the difference in height in my kitchen from the floor to the countertop and that's about 3 feet. Because the instrument is so grossly incorrect, it's useless for my purposes. Now I don't know what I'm going to do with it. I've bought lots of things at Amazon but this is the worst, and it seems I'm stuck with it because of the "no return" policy.

Instructions and quality NOT from Wyoming or the U.S.
For some reason, I was under the impression that this was an instrument. Manufactured by an instrument company that recently brought manufacturing back from China to Wyoming (at least for some products?). Apparently when the CEO left to focus on philanthropic endeavors, he took all of the stuff for which Brunton was known with him. You will not find intelligible instructions, either. A middle school English class will do a better job. If one cannot trust the instructions, how can one trust the "instrument". For what it's worth, this opinion comes from a person earning a living in the technology sector, and with decades of outdoor experience. I suspect that the glowing reviews above may be from those that don't know what declination is, and why it is important to set it.

Very Cool Gizmo!
I'm frankly amazed at how many features are packed into the Nomad V2 Pro - and they all seem to work flawlessly! Plus, the V2 can be configured to display functions such as altitude, barometric pressure, temperature and time in various combinations or units of measure. Though I have yet to test it at high altitude, the V2 seems durable, accurate, and with a display that is easy to read. There is no "off" switch but the unit seems to use very little power. My V2 was in operational mode when I bought it and I don't know how long it had been sitting in the display case at my local REI store quietly ticking away, but I have yet to replace the battery! (There's a good reason why it's always "On". As with any electronic altimeter/barometer/compass, powering it down would necessitate recalibration each time the unit is to be used.) One caveat: The printed instructions are definitely a challenge - murky and containing several typos that will have you pressing the wrong combination of buttons or looking for buttons that don't exist. (You'd think by now that companies such as Brunton would have figured out that lousy instructions are DEADLY to consumer acceptance of otherwise very cool products!) At any rate, the four buttons on the V2 that control functions ARE logically laid out and this makes calibration a fairly straight-forward process once you've figured out the drill and then practiced it a few times. I'd highly recommend the Brunton Nomad V2 Pro to anyone who is serious about trekking or navigation. And were it not for the ineptitude of the printed instructions I would be raving about it!
