This stuff kicks butt! It is also enviro friendly and animal safe. Having said that, I still wash off her paws when we come in as I do not trust everything that a product claims when it comes to my best friends health.) I have 3 flights of stairs which are all outside (meaning, none are covered) and I am also disabled and have a beautiful greyhound who needs to go out as all dogs do. I worried about her feet. Tried the d@mned $50.00 custom fitted, hand made boots for her and of course they were a total waste of money. They fall off, snow gets inside, she looks insane and knows it so she will not wear them. (I would if they fit me - I don't own a single pair of boots that cost $50.00!) But I digress, Snow Joe (ha ha can't help laughing at the name) was a lifesaver for both my best friend and myself. Neither of us are very sure of what looks like something out of a scene from the Winter Olympic Games. It has been solid ice many times this winter and this ice melt nailed it. I shoveled,and shoveled and etc etc and then sprinkled this stuff from the top of Mt Everest to the abyss below and within no time ...MAGIC! It just melts through the ice and then all I had to do was...yup, shovel it off the stairs. I would then reapply it if I knew we were getting more snow or the temps were going to stay cold enough for ice. In other words, almost every day this Winter. I tried three different types this year and I will be staying with this brand funny name or not. Great stuff. Neither my buddy (the dog) or I fell on the stairs once while using this ice melt. So grateful I found something that really works for us. We have all wood stairs and nothing to worry about as far as landscaping.( I rent and the land LORDS consider stone dust and broken pieces of whats left of the driveway, "landscaping") I cannot tell you if it harms shrubbery or grass. It does not look like the stairs are any worse for using it as yet. They are still as ugly as they were before I used it! ha ha Great stuff and both Frankie and I highly recommend Snow Joe Melt.

We ordered this ice melt before a large snowstorm was due to hit our area. It missed the delivery date, but once we received it, we were very happy with the product. We have three dogs, and there are many dogs in the neighborhood, so I prefer to use eco-friendly outside products when I can. I don't want any animal to get sick from something from my yard or home. We have steps leading up to our house, and our two biggest dogs are pullers on the leash. This makes icy steps a dangerous proposition. Luckily, we had this when we got freezing rain. It easily melted the ice on the steps and the rest of our sidewalk. I was glad I didn't have to worry about my dogs pulling me off the steps to my death. (A bit dramatic, but you get the point). I love that the bag is resealable. We have cats as well, and they delight in tipping over and spilling pretty much anything they can get their paws on. This bag we can keep near the door without worrying it will be spilled all over the floor. The one thing I wish came with this is a scoop or other container that could be used to spread the salt. Yes, we have cups we can grab, but it would be nice if something came with this. It would just make it a bit better. This large bag was a good price, and we have plenty left, which is good since it is supposed to snow here tonight and tomorrow! I will definitely order this again when I need more snow melt.

I love this stuff - best product I've found over the years for melting snow and ice, that is at the same time pet & paw friendly, eco friendly and it doesn't damage my driveway or painted steps, whereas the other cheapie stuff has in the past always caused me to have to repaint come spring. Using this substantially lessens that.You can use it to pre-treat, and really does help as the snow falls to melt and clear.One thing I will mention and whine about is that the flip top container is NOT airtight. It reseals, sorta kinda. Not the hugest deal, but I keep it stored in the garage.Over the summer, the garage got sprayed with a hose on accident... I noticed come winter time that it had gotten hit, and the inside was all crappy and wet, thought I just didn't close it correctly, my bad.However, next, new container we bought accidentally was left on the stoop, closed, but rain/moisture got in, so I decided to lose my mind and test it. Not an airtight container even if you really really are careful and diligent about keeping it closed.5 gallon bucket with lid recommended if you're like me and forgetful. : )

THIS is the size to get because this is much easier to store and scoop than getting just a large bag. THAT is why I was getting the small jug, which only lasted me about five days. I would put down and it would last for days, but there was only enough for part of the porch leading to the steps and about four steps. Not very economical.The LARGE bag was hard for me to navigate as I am older, more cost effective, but not convenient.THIS BUCKET is wonderful! I leave it in the entry way just inside, but near the porch. It doesn't take up much room at all.I love Snow Joe. I have a small dog who will sometimes lick his paws. I wanted something pet-friendly....but also something that WORKED well and fast.This is all those things. I put it down at night when I realize we are expecting it to freeze and when I take my dog down the porch steps early in the morning, NO PROBLEM with slipping and sliding. When I don't put it down, it's like an ice rink.

Sealed my flagstone porch with a high quality sealant in the summer. Bought this product as it says it is the safest ice melter for flagstone etc. Used the product conservatively approximately 4 times over the winter and it completely ruined the sealant. I can only hope it didn't ruin the stone as well. The green dye they put in it has also stained the stone in some areas. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. I've used regular rock salt in years passed once in a while and had no issues.

Bonjour, je suis déçue j' ai reçu mon sac de sel hier soir le livreur a sonné et l' a laissé à la porte. J' ai rentré ma boîte etj' entendais le sel à l' intérieur et j' ai vu du sel répandu sur ma galerie sous la boîte. En mettant ma boîte dans la maison le sel s' est répandu sur mon tapis dans l' entrée. J' ai ouvert la boîte et le sac avait perdu beaucoup de son contenu je l' ai soulevé pour le mettre dans ma chaudière à sel qui était déjà pleine au 3/4. Je voulais le conserver dans le sac et l' ouvrir au besoin...donc j' ai récupérer ce qu' il y avait dans le fond de la boîte et sur mon tapis et j' ai placé le sac fendu dans la chaudière...Je ne peux le retourner c' est trop lourd mais je suis déçue.

This is an excellent product that does everything it is advertised to do., but careless packaging has caused problems. My second order of the 10 lb size was packaged so that the cover for the dispenser came loose in the box, emptying about a third of its contents . I was able to recover most of this by the patient use of a dust buster. But this was a massive inconvenience. So I ordered the 25 lb bag. There was a second item in the order, a dustpan. The box was very large and marked "Danger Heavy" , but contained only the dustpan. I finally discovered the next day that there was a second box, that was not delivered to my doorstep as all previous orders had been,. The box had been abandoned on the walkway leading to, but out of sight of, the doorstep. It was by this time covered in snow . Apart from the fact that I am in my late 80s and use a cane. I don't regard the package as having been delivered if I can''t see it. I managed to get the package to where it ought to have been delivered , but it was a precarious operation. Not Amazon's finest hour. I still recommend the product and will probably order it again in the hope that the delivery is made by a less lazy person.

I purchased this ice melt specifically to use on our back deck stairs. We have a 5lb morkie who's not a fan of snow & ice. I bought this product to help clear the stairs that lead off the deck & into the backyard. The very first time I used it was after we had about 3-5cm of ice build up from a freezing rain storm. There are 9 stairs leading to the backyard. I followed the instructions & applied the ice melt to the stairs. My dog wanted to go out about 20 mins later. By the 3rd step my dog was trying to balance on 3 legs because one paw was already hurting. By the 5th step I had to go down & pick her up because she started to whimper alternating which paw she needed to lift off the steps. I brought her in & immediately & throughly washed her paws with warm water. I then put an organic paw balm on all 4 paws. 2 days later she still has a sore red spot on one front paw. It's healing but she was literally on this ice melt for less than 30 seconds. On top of that it did seem like it was working, lots of cracking noises etc initially but it only semi melted the top layer of ice. The stairs were still very slippery 2 hours later when I had to carry my dog down to the backyard again. I have since shovelled & swept all the ice melt away but my dog is still very hesitant to go down the stairs. She needs lots of encouragement & the offering of a treat or 2 if she goes down the stairs. I would definitely NOT recommend this product for anyone who has pets. I know other reviewers said their pets didn't seem to be bothered by it, maybe they were bigger dogs. I don't know but I will NEVER buy this ice melt again.

Definitely buying more of this!!!Minutes after the bag was delivered I went out side and sprinkled the Snow Joe Melt on the thick patches of ice that I hadn't been able to break down before.I have limited mobility and there is nothing more terrifying that slipping on ice.I could hear the crackling sound within seconds. The de-icer started to work that quickly and pretty much destroyed the 2" and 3 " thick patches of hard ice.The broken down and crumbled ice was very easy to shovel away.The bag that holds the de-icer is re sealable and made of a good quality plastic so it's strong enough not to tear with the weight of the product.Blue-green, large semi-granule pieces is what the product looks like.100% recommend this product.It works quickly, has little environmental impact, safe for outside critters and is a reasonable price ( current price $17.00 for 25 lbs)
