Good for bearded men, but the smell isn't for everyone.
First off, I love the packaging. The complaints about it being hard to open or close were written by a 4 year old girl who should not be growing a beard.I would consider this a medium weight balm, it has some hold but isn't too heavy and it tames and softens pretty well. I follow the instructions, using the back of my nail then rubbing in through my hands then beard and combing through. It's really nice but I wasn't a huge fan of the cedar or sawdust smell that this has and my wife said I smelled like a pervy old man which from her expression I assume is not a good thing. (She's crazy though)I want to give this a 5 but the scent just doesn't work for me. Something that repels my wife would cause a dry spell that could not be remedied by a balm.

Good Hold, But Probably Overkill Unless You Have a Beard With Some Thickness
Pretty nice stuff. Pleasant smell, shapes your beard well, but it leaves residue that can be a little tacky to the touch for hours after application. I kind of prefer beard oil, as I don't have a very big beard right now and don't need the hold right now, but this would be a great option for a more substantial beard that requires some taming. With that said, it definitely helps give a more uniform appearance for beards of all lengths.Be sure to let it warm up thoroughly in your hand before use, so that it's more workable - otherwise application can be a little uneven.

This has brought new life to a beard that has been around for 13+ years
This has brought new life to a beard that has been around for 13+ years and still kicking. I have not avoided but have never really thought about adding a beard oil or balm to my routine. Never really thought i needed one. Let me say i was wrong. If you have or are going to grow a beard grab some of the Nobleman's balm and a good boars hair brush (look at my other reviews there is a really good one on the low), and get to it. This has made my beard much more manageable and softer. The skin underneath and around my beard has benefited from this as well.

All-in-all a great product though
Has a smell that is a bit "flat" and with it being under your nose all day could be a turn off to some. All-in-all a great product though, DO NOT OVERUSE it, as a little goes a long way. Helps tame down my beard and mustache and gives it a VERY light shine (doesn't make my beard look oily).

Some say smell or scent, I say STENCH.
The STENCH, not smell or aroma of this item is so bad that I cannot stand applying it to my face. IT STINKS horribly and neither my wife nor I can take it. Even using Cologne does not help, the smell permeates everything and does not go away. I just cannot believe all of the reviews that say it has a great smell, wow. Some even said it had a manly smell and I purchased this product based on the reviews that said great product, good management, and smell. Okay, you know what I think about the smell, here is the rest:Pros: It really holds and manages my beard well Works in easily and thoroughly Controls beardruff (flaky skin that gets all over your clothes) Holds beard in place - yet keeps it softCons: With all of that going for it, I cannot stand the smell. I have used it 4 times and want to use it, but am returning it because I cannot stand it. If you do not use it, no matter how good it is, it is not going to work.I gave this 2 stars based on how good it could do its job and took away 3 stars because I have to send it back - it stinks!

Very good product. It keeps my beard under control
Very good product. It keeps my beard under control, smells great and is not greasy. I rub it on while my beard is still a little damp after the shower and it seems to rub in a little easier. the container is a great size for the price.

Favorite Beard Balm
So far my favorite Beard Balm. Very mild, clean scent. Does not leave a greasy feeling. My beard feels softer, fuller, and has a nice sheen to it. I cannot say enough good things about this balm.

Back to back rancid, ughh
What a doggone shame. Percy Noblemans was my favorite. I never understood the reviews that said it smelled like garbage. I can understand people having an aversion to patchouli, but garbage? Now I understand. Folks, if it smells like garbage it is because the oils have become rancid. Spoiled. And man, what a bad smell. Fortunately, Amazon lets you print out a label with free return shipping. I returned the first bad order and had the money returned to my account in about a week and a half. But, I still had hope and ordered a second time. This batch wasn't quite as rancid, not brown and bubbly on top, but still very rancid in odor. And any bit of rancid is unacceptable. I am returning it now. I should have become aware that something was wrong when Percy Nobleman never showed up when searching "beard balm." I had to search Percy Nobleman specifically to find it. I suspect they are no longer producing and are selling off old stock. I may be wrong, but I got burnt twice in a row. Seriously, as Everitt McGill said in O' Brother Where Art Thou? "The pleasing odor is half the point." And finding that perfect scent is half the point of beard balm in my opinion. I am going to miss you Percy Nobleman, your more waxy, less greasy, pleasing odor was my favorite. Now you smell like death and decay.

Very disappointed
I bought this as the product has many favourable reviews but have been very disappointed. Perhaps I've been unlucky and received a bad tin but the balm is extremely hard, not unlike a beeswax candle and no amount of rubbing and warming seems to soften it. There is vertualy no smell with what little there is reminding me of my aged aunts medicine cabinet. Once on, the balm has no redeeming qualities as it merely dulls my beards natural shine. I genuinely dislike leaving negative reviews but sadly, this product fails to fulfil that which it promises which is why I binned it and bought an alternative.

Awesome stuff !!!
Being new to growing a beard I had no idea these products existed. Three weeks in and after beginning to itch I looked online and discovered a whole new world. I popped to Boots and picked up a few bits and pieces, then a friend recommended Percy Noblemans. These products have been a real revelation.I used the Percy Nobleman beard oil for a few days and after falling in love with it ordered the beard wash and this beard balm. The beard balm really is the icing on the cake of the Percy Nobleman products collection. The wash is great, leaves you with a clean and soft beard, the oil, works in well, and is also great on the skin, softens the beard and conditions, then once washed and oiled a scoop of balm takes it to another level. I seriously love the smell, can't put my finger on what it is, musky, woody but then a slight hint of citrus, it hits the spot perfectly. The tin is smaller than I thought it would be, but I think the contents will go a long way.The first time I used it it took me back to my childhood days, sitting with a tin of Chelsea Dubbing and cloth all ready to clean my football boots. The consistency is remarkably similar. This product is so easy to use, scoop your thumbnail across the balm and collect a fingernail size blob, rub it in between your palms and fingers, then run it through your beard. Once you have massaged it through take a comb/brush and brush or comb your beard to ensure the products is evenly distributed.Once worked in your beard will be left in great condition, looking great, smelling great and will continue to look after your beard all day, no matter what the weather or what you are up to. It really is great stuff. My beard routine now consists of Percy Nobleman beard wash, Percy Nobleman beard oil then their beard balm. All really excellent products which compliment each other perfectly. Within a few days of using my beard is 100% softer, better conditioned and for the first time I feel in complete control.Cannot recommend all of their products enough. A+++ and the Percy Nobleman guys offer first class customer service.

Very disappointing
I've been using this brand of beard oil for a while now, but just cannot get on with the balm. I don’t like the smell and the texture and ability to get enough on my fingers to work into some kind of emulsion is nigh on impossible. The balm is an incredibly hard wax which doesn’t melt and certainly doesn’t make my beard feel softer or conditioned and is very difficult to apply. I’m not going to return it for hygiene reasons but have completely wasted my money.

pleased with it, shall buy another
this is a good quality product. compared to percy's moustache wax (which is much stronger hold but messy to work with) this is brilliant. (i've used a dozen others in the last 2 years for my 7-8 inch long beard). it is easy to work with, as it melts quickly like butter (does have Shea butter and Bees Wax). although, a little criticism would be it could do with a little more hold for control and also i am not too keen on the fragrance but that's a personal choice. Most of the other products i've used in this price range despite being from well known brands are mostly petroleum jelly /Vaseline based products which felt cheated (mind you this is currently about 30% cheaper on amazon then retailers)

May work on some types of hairs. Smell is woody/orange.
Overall beard is thin but actual hairs are thick. I have hairs that are not too curly but certain patches that are more curly than others. This balm works to some degree as it did straighten out some hairs. My beard is a bit strange in that some curly hairs seem to get even more curlier when oiled.I guess it’ll work for some but the hold isn’t too strong.I ordered three. I tried it and returned two of the unused ones. The balm it self has a woody/orange smell that not everyone would like but I don’t find it too strong. Just that if someone is close to you they might realise that your hair has a smell...
