Q: What is the recommended service wire gauge for this unit ?

They come from the factory with 14 gauge, 4 stranded wire for the air handlers... however, in the US, we have found that 16 gauge, 4 stranded wires works as well and is more readily available. Bonterra Home & Garden

Q: Do you need a professional to install or are the instructions pretty easy?

You can install the complete unit, set the compressor, install the linesets (copper & electrical lines from the compressor to the air handler). However, you should have someone who is knowledgeable (professional) about electrical power, tie the compressor to its power source (208-230v). Additionally, we strongly suggest and the warranty expects that you will have a professional pressurize the copper lines. Removing the air trapped from the copper lines, ensuring that your unit to cool and heat efficiently. Bonterra Home & Garden
