Super Cargo Ships
B**.
Provides good general history of large ships with interesting side stories on things such as ship breaking.
An OK book on the subject. It provides a good general history on the development, construction, and operation of large container ships, bulk carriers, oil tankers, and specialist ships such as RO/RO, car carriers, and livestock carriers. There are also occasional one- or two- page side stories on subjects such as ship breaking, super tugboats, Liberty ships, and traveling on freighters. If you are looking for much detail on the subject, then this book probably isn't what you want. There are lots of interesting color photos, though.

Learned a lot
This book is great! While limited by the motorbook format, the lavish photos and sidebars put a lot of info in your hands for such a small book. I was particularly impressed by the chapter on the U.S. Military Sealift Command, as the material there seems well-researched and the photos are of ships of the same class as those I've seen call at Guantanamo Bay since I've been here. The role shipping plays in the world economy is discussed as well as changes in the way shipping is flagged and other issues. By no means the last word on the subject this is still an excellent source if you want to know how modern cargo ships work.

Amazing amount of information
Super Cargo Ships packs an amazing amount of information in less than one hundred pages on topics regarding cargo vessels ranging from the mass production of Liberty ships in World War Two to the U.S. naval base at Diego Garcia to the attempt at building nuclear powered cargo vessels to the enjoyable (though relatively obscure) cruise opportunities available on many of the worlds cargo vessels. The book like most of the Color Enthusiast series is blessed with an abundance of well made photos. While of course focusing mainly on modern cargo vessels it doesn't scrimp on the history of such vessels from the World War Two era to the president day.Definitely recommended.

Interesting Book on an Important Subject
Global commerce exists mainly because of ships, and this book gives a great introduction into the types of ships that fuel the world's economies. The chapters on Container Ships and Tankers were very informative and the sidebar on shipbreaking was a real eye opener. Highly recommended.
