DON'T LET THE FUN COLOR MISLEAD YOU -- STAYS SERIOUSLY SHARP KNIFE, even after 5 years!!
This knife has stayed very sharp after almost 5 years of use and is highly recommended!! This knife slices tomatoes better than any other knife I've used; its serrated edge bites into the tomato, allowing you to slice instead of squish the tomato. The point is specially shaped to allow you to quickly & easily remove the core from the tomato (see pictures). This also works well for slicing other slippery foods like olives. The handle is quite comfortable. While this does not have the heft of a traditional knife, it does not feel flimsy and the handle is very comfortable. And it's so easy to clean; just put in the dishwasher (although the manufacturer recommends hand washing).I had initially purchased this (and a nearly completely set of these Pure Komachi knives) to keep my husband away from my "good" knives when he was making sandwiches, etc, and because I wanted inexpensive knives that I wouldn't feel guilty about running through the dishwasher -- but it turns out that I like "his" knives so much, I use them, too! When these knives first arrived, my husband called them "kiddie knives," because of the pretty colors, but be careful, because these are very sharp -- early on, I cut myself badly enough with the purple sandwich knife so that a Band-aid was inadequate and I needed Steristrips. My advice is to treat this knife as you would any super-sharp knife, because it is just as sharp as my professional quality-knives, even if it comes in a fun color and is not too expensive.

best Tomato and Citrus knife
This is specialized for tomatoes and citrus fruits and is one of my 3 favorite specialized (beyond what ordinary knives can offer) Pure Komachi 2 knives, the other two being the blue Multi-Utility (esp. Fish) knife and the purple Sandwich knife. This red knife works great for tomatoes (the spear end can be used to pick up the top of the tomato (and wrist-flick off somewhere) that you have carved out with the knife -- look up how chefs cut tomatoes if you don't understand this). The sawtooth blade appears identical to the yellow "Citrus" knife, so I don't see any use for the yellow knife if you have this red one. This red knife is not good for cutting hard or soft cheese (the yellow "Cheese" knife works for hard cheese), though the spear end is handy for picking up a piece of hard cheese.I have all the Pure Komachi 2 knives and think they are a clearly better quality brand (just by looking at the edge, not to mention that the same parent company makes the awesome Shun professional knives) than the very similar knives I see in stores like Target.-- Usual warning to be super careful using these lightweight razor sharp knives. The difference in weight can make your muscle-memory lifetime cutting habits unsafe. So be cautious until you are used to the light weight and extra sharpness of these knives.

Excellent
This knife is excellent! My cousin has one. I used at her house and couldn't believe how sharp and ready it was to use!! I got on Amazon and ordered myself one. It arrived before I got home the next day. Awesome

Great for Tomato's depends on cheese
This knife can cut super thin tomato slices. Really good for that. If you are looking for a cheese knife you may want to try another knife. I tried to use this knife to cut my grass feed cheese and the cheese just sticks to the knife. I ended up using a table knife to get the cheese off this knife.Update a month later. Changed to a 5 star rating. I think my grass feed cheese is just too soft and not firm enough for any knife. My cheese does not even work well with a wire cutter. I did use knife on some other cheese and it did work well with no sticking. I use this knife for everything. Works well cutting citrus. I have not tried as a steak or bread knife but hard to beat performance and price on the thing I have tried it on.

Great little knife, sharp and works for what we wanted to use it for.

Good value!
My hubby and I are great cheese fans, and we seem to favor particularly hard and crumbly cheeses... the kind of cheese that destroys wire cheese cutters. That's a lesson you learn the hard way. The 4" tomato/cheese knife cuts such cheese as though it were butter.Kitchen knives are one of those things: you can basically spend as much as you want on them. However, sometimes spending more money doesn't guarantee you a better product. As always, do your research! I had been needing new kitchen knives for some time, and after researching the various brands out there, I determined that the Pure Komachi series were the best value for me. They are easy to purchase a la carte, which was a big selling point for me. I've had knife sets before, and I find that there are quite a few knives in the set I never use. Buying just the knives you will actually use is a good way to save a little money. I also really like that they are colorful. In addition to giving my kitchen a pretty splash of color (I have a magnetic knife bar, so the knives hang on the wall instead of being jammed in a drawer or knife block, which can dull the blades), the color also serves a useful purpose, by helping you avoid cross-contamination (for example, I always use the pink chef's knife for raw meat). All in all, a good buy. To be fair, I'm sure you could probably use another reasonably sharp knife with great success on tomatoes and cheese. One downside I see to this knife is that it is only 4", and I've seen some whopping great tomatoes that this knife would be too small to slice. If you're being thrifty and strictly buying only the most basic, essential knives, you could probably skip this tomato/cheese knife and stick with the Pure Komachi 2 Series 6-Inch Serrated Multi-Utility Knife, since I think you'd probably get more mileage out of that one. That said, this knife really does a great job slicing tomatoes and cheese!
