Magical & mesmerizing masterpiece~Bravo Jennifer!
Jennifer Warnes came on to the scene late sixties as unique singer & small club sensation after garnering large cult following from appearing in Aquarius Theatre production of "Hair"...funky outfit, long blonde hair pearing soulfully over "granny glasses", great singer showed with smoldering passionate intensity turning "Easy To Be Hard" inside out, clearly had the stuff to become a major singer with a deeply soulful style plus original sound all her own...around the time of Los Angeles production a few albums were recorded with "See Me, Touch Me, Feel Me" being a superb album filled with engaging vocals showing great promise yet this fine showcase was poorly promoted, exposure limited to fans savoring and enjoying a great set of illuminating performances from the wonderfully gifted singer.Several years later after numerous gigs resulting in finely honing her craft came "Jennifer" on Reprise Records, Superstar status for this captivating collection of amazing songs and performances looked certain. Produced with great flair by John Cale, impressive list of session players read like a legendary whose-who of the rock & soul world, stellar Jennifer vocals front and center in a stunning variety of great songs sung & arranged to perfection, sadly they don't make them like this anymore!Ethereal opener "In The Morning" has got to make Barry Gibb smile, Jimmy Webb "P.F.Sloan" sentimental & richly illuminating, John Cale "Empty Bottles" smoothly pulsates creating a truly classic performance, Donovan "Sand And Foam" haunting & mesmerizing, Andy Fraser/Paul Rodgers "Be My Friend" a smoldering soulful anthem, Gunston/Dove "Needle And Thread" truly a stunning vocal tour-de-force, Jennifer Warnes "Last Song" unique self-penned gem, follow provided reflective lyrics, Jimmy Webb "All My Love's Laughter" true to memorable concert moment, Jackson Browne "These Days" another engrossing gem true to concert performance, Keith Reid/Gary Brooker "Magdalene (My Regal Zonophone)" mystical musical grandeur from Procol Harum team is a mind-whirling spectacular finale...Jennifer goes deep inside each & every varied glorious magical musical gem, turning every great song inside out with incandescent performances that ultimately create a timeless vocal masterpiece.Live gigs now featured the tremendous singer performing songs from "Jennifer" to great effect with mesmerized audiences SRO, yet with no apparent promotion leading to airplay this phenomenal work until now disappeared along with Jennifer until commercial run with chart success "Right Time Of The Night", then on to those magnificent eighties soulful duet anthems that lifted her up where she belongs!Through the years noticed constant demand for "Jennifer" to be released on Compact Disc, high on various request lists demanding vinyl to Compact Disc issue, thankfully with this beautifully remastered long-overdue welcomed Japanese Import complete with lyrics, fans of this sublime voice showcased in a glorious setting can savor & enjoy what many feel is one of Jennifer Warnes finest moments in the recording studio, amazing group of esteemed musicians are clearly incredibly inspired, grab this rare once in a lifetime musical treasure fast while available, once sold-out price of this vocal masterpiece will soar like Jennifer Warnes gorgeous voice...Bravo Jennifer!

The Voice
My father said to me one night during a Smother's Brothers performance, "Son, come down here and listen to this girl sing" That girl was Jennifer Warnes singing a Joni Mitchell song with an operatic tune intermixed. I was astounded by her range, her phrasing, her presence. The next week I was in Los Angeles and was seeing Hair, and that Jennifer girl just happened to be in the cast. I was hooked, and have been that way ever since. This album came out in 72, after HAIR and the Smothers were off the air, her third album. For some reason, the record company must not have promoted it because it seemed to go out of print shortly. But this one is a gem. This is not the slick country " I know a Heartache When I see One, Jennifer Warnes, or the Leonard Cohen jazzy interpreter, or the duet singing pop movie soundtrack chanteuse; all endearing parts of her vocal charm. But this album's vocals represent the breezy, ethereal singer's singer, a collection of tunes from a young Jackson Browne, Barry Gibb, Donovan, Jimmy Webb and even an early Jennifer original. And the winning production of John Cale, the Velvet Underground artist, emphasizes her vocals with stellar but yet subtle instrumentation, even using a Boys Choir on one tune.I have had this one on my cd wish list for many years, and have not heard some of these tunes in 30 years, so this cd was a true gift.

Her third album
Nice import showing Ms. Warnes moving closer towards a bigger audience and bigger impact on the world. This release by the Japanese (who are very well known for their desire to have exhaustively complete collections of their favorite artists) actually adds more to the mystery of why no one has to date released the follow up album (her Arista debut that brought her the greatest success up to that time and introduced her to a vast audience). This is worth a listen and has some enjoyable and memorable moments.

I own every album this great singer ever made
I own every album this great singer ever made, so when I saw this early one that was never released I jumped at the chance to buy it. The quality of the recording is bad, and the choice of songs left me cold. It's no wonder it never made it to the music shelves. I'd love to see her do something new as I will always be a huge fan, but I'd save your money and avoid this recording.

Import CDs of Jennifer might be the only available copies left.
Best remastered album (on CD) ever. P.F. Sloan is my favorite although it is a remake of the Jimmy Webb classic.
