Based on the books by best-selling author Henning Mankell, detective Kurt Wallander,is an intense and headstrong maverick, who is prone to eating poorly, sleeping irregularly and drinking too much. With unorthodox methods of working and his blunt approach, Wallander relies on instinct and experience and doesn t shy away from using illegal means to solve crimes.

The end of Wallander's career
Kurt Wallander, the Swedish detective returns with his final set of cases. The cases are, as always, excellent, and the acting superb. This also features his daughter, and their relationship has evolved, and he is now a doting grandparent, and like earlier films, "Jussi" is included - as well as many of the usual characters. It seems like it's been a long time since Wallander's previous cases were released on DVD, so it was good to see the whole team back again.I did find the last two 'films' to be quite sad, as Wallander's career comes to an end. There is also an interview with the actor who plays Wallander - who commented that at the age of 68, he has decided that he wants to move on to other acting opportunities. The makeup department have done a remarkable job, because by the time Wallander retires, he does look quite old - and yet the actor in the interview looks much younger.Yes - I've not given away any of the plots - nor why Wallander retires. It makes it much more interesting when you don't know what to expect.

Brilliant to the end
I knew that this would be the final series as Wallander's health deteriorates, but was compelled to watch it as I had been an avid fan of all the earlier series. It did not disappoint. I thought the medical problem was handled with great sincerity, subtlety and thought for the workforce who sensed that all was not well. I dreaded watching the final episode because I thought it would be so harrowing, but I was relived to find that it was not quite as upsetting. There were reasons for this, which would be a plot spoiler. What I particularly like about Wallander and most of the Nordic Noir offerings, is that the characters are believable and ordinary. They do not flash their whitened teeth, wear smart suits or dazzle us with their botoxed facial appearance as seen in many American offerings. I think that Krister Hendrikkson was superb, so understated, so much of a loner and married to the job. A really brilliant series, and thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely a must have for the hard of hearing and the deaf..
I am profoundly deaf, I turn sound down and read the subtitles. These are very good, the stories are excellent, the scenery and the acting is superb. I have a collection now, they keep me entertained, the fact that they are a foreign language does not matter. So pleased I realised they would be just the job for me and others like me who are deaf.Nothing much to watch , mostly repeats on tv at the moment.

This is not a glamorous side of Sweden.
At the moment I am watching an episode of Wallander every afternoon, courtesy of Covid lockdown. Some episodes are very good, some just good. The subtitles do not detract from the story, and it is nice to hear words that are the same in English, eg Come in. Do NOT buy Wallander Seasons 1 &2 , Nordic Noir Classics as there are only 13 episodes on the discs, as I discovered.

... films (marketed as 5 DVD sets) in total was excellent, with some episodes better than others
The entire series of some 32 individual feature length films (marketed as 5 DVD sets) in total was excellent, with some episodes better than others, and many simply outstanding. For those desiring a career in the acting profession I strongly urge those students of drama to watch WALLANDER as one will rarely see such a beautifully nuanced, subtle and utterly compelling performance as that of star Krister Henriksson - the key reason that WALLANDER was just so darned good. Low key, softly spoken and economical in gesture, Henriksson conveys so much and so well making the series a joy to behold, with the last few episodes being especially emotional for reasons I won't elaborate upon.Highly Recommended and much better than the British / Kenneth Branagh re-boot.

This season gives me everything Wallander
I love the Swedish mysteries, not only for the plot depth but also for the lovely and intense scenery. If you love Wallander you really want to see what happens to him after a life of seeing unforgettable things ...

The end of a brilliant story
This is the final DVD collection (Episodes 17-23) of the 23-episode Swedish Scandi-Noir TV detective series Wallander, from the books of Henning Mankel, starring Krister Henriksson. Each episode is approx. 1h 50ins long. There have been 3 releases of this show since 2003, each with incompatible episode groupings, as I discovered when I began collecting them. There is also a British version with Kenneth Branagh.Having discovered this, with a couple of false starts, I concentrated on the final Swedish 2014 release in 5 DVD volumes, buying in the middle as I found them. I prefer the Swedish version as you see the drama deeply embedded in the Swedish landscape, architecture, way of life and social setting, and Swedish police procedure. The characters develop strongly, with storylines suitably odd, convoluted, twisted and compelling, as any of the best Scandi-Noir.I haven’t watched this particular DVD set yet as I’ve started watching from Episode 1-7, also just acquired (it’s a ripper). I do know how episode 23 ends for our laconic Wallander, but no spoilers here even though they don’t matter in such a good show. Suffice to say, I hold in anticipation viewing these episodes 17-23 and the wind up of Wallander’s story. I'm absolutely certain I won't be disappointed.
